grinding

Alright, on my 99 SS it grinds when i shift really fast but doesnt when i'm just cruising around town doin normal shifting. I have the hurst shifter with the lou's short stick i dont know if somethings slightly off or what? So whats the deal here? I just bought it like a month ago or so too so this is kind of aggrivating. Or should i take it to a Chevy dealer and have them take a gander at it??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One of two issues..(or both).....

1) The synchro for whatever gear is grinding, is worn & needs to be replaced.

2) The hydraulics for the clutch are worn & leaking or have air in the sytem. This would possibly prvent the clutch from fully releasing. If this were the case you would notice it in all gears as oppesed to the same gear all the time.

Stock 98-00 LS1 clutches suck. They were replaced in 01 with the Z06 clutch assembly and slave cylinder. If you powershift your car(and I see it's a 98), you're asking for it. Either get the Z06 setup, or go aftermarket. Either way, that should remedy your problem

So i'm thinkin i'm gonna take it to the shop and have them look it over, plus 3rd does it just a little bit, but 4th is the worst and 5th does it a bit too but only when i shift fast like while racing.

And my buddy has a 2000 T/A and he keeps tellin me my transmissions gonna go out just like his cause thats exactly what his did before it gave out, but his did it no matter how slow or fast ya shifted But he was always racin and speed shiftin etc..... i just dont wanna have to replace the tranny i dont have that kinda money right now, so i'll just have to have them look over everything then.

My '01 is the same way. I get just a touch of grind on the 3/4 shift from time to time.

OEM Clutch is crap. Once I change to a better setup, I expect the problem to go away.

Guys...

The Stock LS1 Clutches may be "crap" as far as engagement goes (much of this is due to the restrictor in the hydraulic line.... slows engagement & makes it slip under hard accelleration & shifting). However, this is NOT the problem with your gears grinding.

Yes, the '01 and '02 hydraulics are better & it's recommended to upgrade if you are doing a clutch anyway.

BUT ...... unless you have a leak or air in the fluid, that's not your problem.

If it's not air or a leak.... it's your synchros. Oh, by the way, these trannys have another issue with the cheap stamped steel shift forks that they use too.
