Re: Got my dyno numbers!

Al, why would you have to trailer your car there?

I think slicks, skinnies, and 90/10 shocks make for an unpleasant drive on the street.

Oh I've got street tires and my shocks are adjustable. What keeps it off the street is the pro gears in the rear. Pro gears are much stronger (to resist breakage) than street gears but also much softer so they will wear out way faster. A 60 mile round trip to Lansing is equalivent to almost a years wear on the drag strip. That's a pretty hefty price to pay for a fun trip to the dyno for numbers that don't matter. The ones that matter are in the sig.

This with a lid and a Corsa catback on my 2002 Z28 M6.
This is just more proof to me that dyno numbers don't mean squat except for tracking improvements from mods.

On that same dyno at VTP back in the summer of 02 my 00 Formula automatic with unlocked converter pulled only 312hp and 33x torque with a lid, off road Y, and a loudmouth. With a 3500 Yank converter in it. But the car ran 108 (in the heat) to 110+ (best) MPH in the 1/4.

According to the dyno #s your car shoud run 1 mph faster than mine did.

And in the fall of 1999 our 98 SS M6 dynoed a whopping 277hp and 294tq on a Mustang dyno but ran a best of 13.30 @ 107 mph in the 1/4 on a 2.03 60'.

Just use dyno numbers to judge gains from future mods.

And maybe it would, if I were powershifting, or if I could actually get off the line in a reasonable amount of time. Was your car a full-options car with leather and t-tops?

I'm quick with the shifter, but I still do a complete lift on both the clutch and the gas. Some more practice has netted a slight improvement on my best trap speed -- I'm up to 107.8, and it was 20-30 degrees warmer that day than when I ran the 107.55.

Damm nice numbers on your car! Did you get a chance to see what it runs at the track yet. You are about dead even with my new numbers.

I would love to see your car at the track sometime. How has everything else been going? I am having Chris install a rebuilt tranny in my car on Friday. My clutch packs went out in mine. I picked up a rebuilt with minor upgrades to get me thru until next summer. I want to hit the track one more time this year. If weather holds this Sat. morning they are running at Milan. You should come out.

Thanks! No track time yet. I'm hesitant to do that with the M6, stock clutch & stock 10-bolt. It'd be good for a MPH, but that's about it. Besides, there's still a few things I want to tackle with the tune and what not (think there might be a little more in there somewhere). I also think there's some wiring that needs attention. My ABS Inop light hasn't shut off since the dyno. Something may have been jarred by the straps on the dyno. I also had a code register saying something about the steering wheel sensor or something. Normally, those codes would be gone within a few minutes of driving. But, I put 30+ miles and 3~4 restarts with no luck. I "checked" the brakes the other day and the rear locked right up and cocked me sideways a bit. Not exactly what I want at 118mph on the drag strip.

Sounds like you're on your way to a quick pass this Saturday. The cold air will definitely make it fun! I'd come out, but I'm going to be up in Lansing and the SS is down for the winter I think. Best of luck with yours this weekend!

Only thing missing from the car at that time was the spare and jack. Race weight 3600 pounds and the car is an automatic. Mod for mod sticks always mph higher that's why I didn't even mention the 12.15 second ET

I personally only use dyno numbers for tracking gains and only use one dyno facility.

Drivers are so different that its easy for a good driver in a 320rwhp car to beat a bad driver in a 360rwhp car.

My car is happy with its 320rwhp/337rwtq stock.. no lid no nothing added..
85K miles now so its getting up in the years..
