Going to buy a LS1

I'm looking into getting rid of my 2nd gen SS and buying a new F-body w/ the LS1 and 6 speed. Either Poncho or Chevy, probably a 98 model. Anything in particular I should look for or know? Trouble areas or anything?

I've heard the later year LS-1's ( 2000-02) are the quickest and dyno this highest. 98-99 are getting down there in price so that's not a bad idea. SS or WS-6 will get you better wheels and some more ponies ( some may argue it's not worth the extra cash). Depends on what u want to do. A stripper z28 or formula will make a great project car.
Not sure if there are any "bad" year LS-1's. Good luck

I have owned both a '98 and an '01. I really liked them both. The '01-'02 cars make more power, but that is mostly from the LS6 intake. The intake is a great mod for the older cars, but is $500 and then you have to deal with the EGR (or lack there of on the LS6 intake). '98, '01 and '01 have larger injectors. The '01-'01 cars also have the Z06 clutch, which is a LOT better than the '98-'00 clutch. Th good news is if buy a '98, the clutch has probably been replaced.

If I were in your shoes, I would not home in on a specific year, but rather find a nice car with the options you want in the right price range, and make sure it doesn't have 600 passes at the dragstrip.

The stangs I've seen require too many bolt ons to run with a LS1. Not to mention the ugliness of the bodystyle. Sorry, but the 4.6's lack of torque just doesn't float my boat.

I was just wondering if there was any problems that were common to these cars. Like the 99 up grand ams are prone to intake gasket failure.
