Question GMMG question

Soon I am going to order a GMMG cat back and I have been thinking about the oval tips. Probablly a dumb question but, does the sound or performace differ from the regular tips from the oval? I have Xenon ground effects and I thought it would look nicer with the oval tips from the rear. I want performace and style.

I would think different shaped tips would make a difference. I went from 3 inch tips to 4 inches and there was a notable sound difference. Much throatier.

Kyle, I have an old style GMMG on my car. It sounded the same with straight tips, the dual/dual style I got with it (no longer available from GMMG), even with just the 3" chambered "I" pipe(no longer available from GMMG). Remember, the GMMG is chambered piping, a different technology than a chambered muffler that uses baffles to redirect flow and reduce noise. Bullet mufflers use fiber glass to change the sound. BraXXton is one of the old school makers of performance exhausts. That is who helped Mat Murphy develop this system before he was GMMG,inc. I have had mine a long time. It survived the total destruction of my 97 and still looks as good today as it did six years ago. It begins to sound better over time. Also, when it is cold and the air pump (on cars that still have them) is running to heat the cats, it makes a ringing sound. Nothing to worry about, it is just a frequency that the chambers are not tuned to take out. Also, be aware that this is the same exhaust that the new ZL1 cars are using to laying down 600+ horsepower with no cut outs. You should never need another exhaust.

I do not work for GMMG and I only know Matt by sight, but I love the exhaust. You are going to love yours. Enjoy whatever tips you get.

PJ

I'm not sure if there would be a difference in sound. I have the regular tips on my GMMG, but will get quad tips or oval Mecham tips in the next month. I'll let you know if there is a sound difference. BTW, you'll absolutely love your GMMG exhaust! Are you buying through the f-bodyhideout.com group purchase?

I am buying directly from the web site. I have heard of the group purchase from f-bodyhideout.com but I am not registered there. I think it was only about $50 cheaper from there anyway. I hear alot about the GMMG and heard sound clips. From the sound clips I was very impressed. I have a Flowmaster American Thunder on my '94 LT1. But the GMMG was highly recomended for the LS1 (my '98). I'm really looking forward to getting it. I take my cars to Watkins Glen International every year in May. Thanks for the input and info guys

Also, I am kinda worried whiether or not the tips are going to line up with the open spaces of my Xenon ground effects in the rear. I guess when you are paying $850 for it, you need reassurance.
