I don't know them, but I would suggest that if you're going to swap cams, give Comp Cams a call and ask for Brian. He'll hook you up with whatever cam you want, including a custom grind.

This is the cam I will be going with in the spring, gives you decent power for the money, but is a very good BIG cam impersonator!!

The Hotcam will have a better power curve. The LS6 cam really only shows its stuff over 4000 rpms, and it will peak higher than the Hotcam. My car made 381 rwhp @ 5950 rpms and 373 rwtq @ 5000 rpms. I made 350+ rwtq from 2900 rpms through 5000+ rpms.

I know of a couple "real" cams that haven't performed as well as mine.

yea, in general, the more you dyno the faster you go..... as long as you can put it to the ground.

why are ppl with real cams going so much faster than ppl with GM cams?

How much would it cost to get a cam and get it put in? Or is it possible to do it myself? Just wondering.

LS1 specific, I'm not sure, but I will give you an idea. Basically its expensive. Depending on your application, youre looking at atleast $500 in parts if you purchase new and dont reuse anything (lifters, pushrods, valvesprings etc.). I would assume with the LS1 you would reuses your stock rocker arms... not sure.

Then on top of that youll want to replace gaskets so throw another $75 we'll say, and on top of that depending on how radical your cam is, you may need to get your car tuned. The local shop here in Raleigh charges $400 for a dyno tune. Mail order tunes are a lot cheaper, but theyre not always perfect.

Labor wise youre looking at a lot of time, I'd say atleast 6-8 hours.... so lets say if you have someone do it for you, another $300-400 on labor. You can do it yourself, but cam installation isnt something the novice mechanic should attempt.

So there you have it, if you do it all yourself youre basically looking at spending around $1000 including a dyno tune session. Adding labor it could easily get to $1500.

Paid $400 for all parts and did it myself and that includes gaskets and fluids.Look for deals on the parts, my cam was new but roller cams hardly wear at all, lots of people go without tunes it's up to you and how much you can put up with, anyone who changes the lifters on a cam only non head swap is an idiot, you will need springs.
