Post GM LS1 hot cam kit and 1,8 rockers......

I was thinking of going with a LS1 hot cam in the SS and going to an LS6 intake and a ported throttle body.....can I use 1.8 roller rockers with the hot cam kit?Or am I better off going with stock rockers?Does any company make a roller rocker with the stock ratio?Help me out guys....I need to know how I can pick up some power without a power adder or taking off the heads....
Thanks

you should be fine using the 1.8s with the hotcam. BUT, lets look at this a littel more closely

a Hotcam cost 450 at tbyrne maybe youll find one for 350 on a GP
the Rockers cost around 700 bucks at thunder or tbyrne
then you need the gaskets and stuff. thats about 30 bucks
And I wouldnt trust the hotcam supplied springs to work with the added lift, (the rocker kit might come with some imnot sure, but they might not work with anything but stock cam) so you might need springs 160 bucks although you can look into this

So at minimum you are looking at 1080 and it could get up to 1340

on the otehr hand, you can get a thunder racing cam, 918 comp valvesprings, pushrods, and gaskets for 700
add 100 for the titanium retainers if you want them and you are up to 800

and the thunder racing cams are far superior to the Hotcam, they are comp grinds, and almost always outperform the hotcam. I would say that the few instances they dont are due to tuning or diferent mod levels.

Well I found the hot cam kit for $391 and some change from gmpartdirect.I don't know what the best price around is on the roller rockers but that is some thing I could do later when I have the money....and the reduction in friction is what I want the rockers for.....Im just looking for a little more power with great street manners at a low cost and I think the gm hot cam is what I am after..anybody out there with the hot cam..I would like to know what you guys think about it ...or if you have heard anything about them....
Thanks

Are you aware that the stock rockers are roller fulcrum? the tips arent though. If you want stock ratio there are a couple of shaft mpunt adjustable setups out there for about hte same amount of money as the 1.8 cranes, jesel and TA I belive both have them. check out thunder racing for the TA ones, dont know where to get jesels from

The hot cam manners arent all that great IMO, that I think any of the popular TR or MTI cams (all in the 221 to 224 deg range) have better manners

Check out this page, hes got some great info gathered from lots of people on cams http://xs-fx.com/raughammer/cam_info.htm

waste of money in my opinion....better off going to a TR224 cam or 222 duration single patter MTI cams(B1/T1). Behave alot better than a choppy Hotcam and make ALOT more power for less that a Hotcam and RR would make...with or without friction..lol

Cool

DO NOT use the 1.8:1 roller rockers with the supplied springs in the hot cam kit. They're only good for the .525" lift that you see with the stock 1.7:1 rocker ratio. You'll end up with .556" lift with 1.8:1 rockers, and that will snap those springs pretty quick.

I totally agree with phatT/A that the hot cam kit is a waste of money. You're going to have a cam that is less streetable than many other cams out there, and it will put down quite a bit less power, too. The stock 1.7:1 rockers DO have a roller fulcrum from the factory, FYI. You could go with a tame 220/220 duration cam that will idle much better than the hot cam while putting down an easy 10 RWHP more. Spend the extra money now to get what you want & what will work better. If you try the 1.8:1 rockers with the hot cam kit, then I'd go with a set of Comp 918 springs.

Feel free to give me a call at L.G. if you want to talk about cams some more. We can get you virtually anything you want, and we also are making some GREAT #'s with our G5 cam. Our last f-body left with 390 RWHP with stock heads. Just call and ask for me, and I'll be glad to discuss it with you.

Cool

Give me a call at the shop, and I'll get a package price for ya. I'm getting ready to swap out to this cam as well on a 111 LSA. The "standard" G5 is on a 112 LSA, FWIW.
