Getting a Camaro
I'd say you're better off getting a WS6, they are tested to be faster and they are meaner looking!! Either way, you should get an '01 or '02, the LS1's in those are a little bit more powerful than the 2000's and older because of the LS6 intake manifold, cam, and some other little things to it.
I went out again today and since yesterday I seen about 15 Z28's and like 5 SS's and none of them have a M6. Maybe I should just get a auto, I duno, I guess I'll keep looking. I saw a green 98 z28 with 54k miles and it was $12,995. Looked mighty tempting. And so continues my journey.....
BTW what is your location? Im sure if you find a 6 speed within a 100 miles or more it will be WELL worth the trip. Or even find something across country and ship it. These are a dead breed and well worth and extra K to get exactely what you want.

Yeah, don't settle for an automatic. Hold out for the manual 6. I'm not trying to talk bad about the auto. Drag racers really love them as do the daily comuters. But if you like rowing through the gears, get the 6.
You'll find one.
Oh, and when you do find it, be sure to complain about how you wanted an automatic but might settle for the 6 speed.
See if the seller knows how few there are.

Me personally, I love the camaro over all the others and I cant stand the SS.. Its nothing special.. if you line up two bone stock cars at the strip one being and SS and the other a Z28 then you would understand.. for 3K more youwould expect to see taillights the whole time but nope.. you are next to them the whole time.. heck, in some cases the Z28 is faster... I know plenty of SS cars that make less power than me stock..
like stated above on the first page.. its about looks.. what image do you want? I prefer subtle... that way if I am quick its good..... heheh
I am on my second Z28... just so you know.. when they made the RS it was a V6 car.. but I dont think that they made them into the 2000 year models.. not sure though. never paid any attention to V6's..
also of note, 2001 and 2002 cars got the LS6 intake, the LS6 clutch and a few other goodies.. So the M6 is well worth holding out for in the newer models.. I had 6 autos in my last Z28 and will never own another auto because of it... (unless its a Mercedes auto)
hehe

My LT1 was behind at the start cause I spun badly, then at 60 I ran by him... so just imagine what my LT1 would of done to the WS6... hehe
sure I was lightly modded but I should of just been as quick...
or maybe WS6 is like the SS just appearance and no extra muscle (yes, that is all it is.. you can argue about ram air all day long but the aerodynamics of a T/A arent what I would consider better than a Camaro which is smoother so any extra power you get is just trying to overcome the lack of better aerodynamics)

removing an ls1 engine from a camaro and putting it in a t/a is guranteed 100+hp to the wheels baby!!!!
whether or not the car looks more agresive is very subjective. personally, i really dont' like the ws6's. i think the ss's look very aggressive. but then, i am biased
. the ss has a superior ride and handling package, slp lid, slp exhaust, badging, a build number and thats about it really. but, there isn't a single thing the ss has on a z that there isn't a "better" aftermarket item out there. if you want the look, if you want the "status", if you don't want to mod things like suspension (not that the z's suspension sucks, just the ss's is better). get an ss. if none of those things matter to you and you want to mod the suspension, lid, exhaust, etc.. get a z.
an ss is rated something stupid like 10 hp higher than a z. with cars that put down anywhere from 290 to 320 stock..... a 10 hp rating from the manufacturer don't mean jack. ss's are no faster than z's. any addition to hp will be negated by xtra weight. oh and not that it matters at this point, the ss's gave the buyer a broader choice to options. but at this point, that really doesn't matter.
remember, your first mods on a z or ss will be lid and exhaust regardless so don't let those slp options fool ya to much
. oh and black on black ss t-tops. mmm mmmm good
