Wink G-tech On My 99 Ss

I just ran my new m6 ss camaro on the g-tech pro comp tonight. It read 5.23 0-60, and 13.012 in the quarter with a 2.2 60'. The car is stock just the k&n filter, ram air, flowmaster muffler, some ngk plugs, and nothing else. I put the car to weigh 3800 lbs and my hp # were 333 @ 5350 and 370 ft lb @ 4400. Do these results sound accurate or am i waisting my time with these results. And any suggestions on getting the most power for the least amoount of money would be nice. Thanks

Let's keep this one on the subject of "LS1 Engine Tech" if we can... since that's what this forum is all about.

If you want to converse on G-tech in general, I can move this to the General Tech forum. This one has potential for technical engine discussion (you asked about mods) so I'll leave it here to see where it goes.

99 Stock LS1 should be approx 300~310 rwhp on an M6. Your generous weight of 3800 lbs is throwing off the calculations if you ask me. I weighed in at just under 3500 lbs on the scales at the track (without me in the car, 1/2 tank of gas and no spare/jack) and my car came loaded with all the options. I'd say use 3450 + your body weight. That should be a little more accurate when it comes to the timing of things. The MPH will be different of course because the traps at the track are an average speed where the g-tech is guessing your actual speed at the 1/4 mile mark.

Well depending on the options on your car your weight is probably off a little. My car with no weight reduction and 1/4 tank weighed 3340, however it was a stripper car (no options at all except the performance axle and cd player) so it is on the light side.

Re: G-tech On My 99 Ss

I used the Gtech thing to. I made my weight 3,700 LBS I beleive and it said I run a 13.3 @ 108 MPH and at the track my average time was a 13.3@ 105 MPH but my best time was a 13.22@ 106 MPH. So Its off but not by much. My HP numbers were way off. Said I had 230 HP. So I guess just lower it by a tenth if you get the weight right and it will be right on.

I would say the horsepower may be a tad optimistic, but every car is different. Most 99 wil be in the 300 rwhp bracket. Some 01-02's are 320+, but there is nothing to say a 99 couldn't. Get a lid, pulley, headers, and some Nittos and watch out.

Re: G-tech On My 99 Ss

I have heard of a few 6-speed 01-02 cars that have about 320 rwhp stock. They are fw and far between, but they exist. I buddy of mine put down 357 rwhp with a lid, headers, and catback.

Re: G-tech On My 99 Ss

even if the numbers are not totally accurate, i would just leave everything as is, it gives you the baseline for further comparison after mods or changes.

i would definatly get the car weighed though, that is the big variable that could be throwing things off.

and everything i've read on the G-tech is that the ET is pretty accurate, however the MPH are reading a tad high...which seems to be consistent with your findings.

when it gives you HP, does it calculate it as rwhp or flywheel...i would think it would be rwhp since i dont think it takes into account trans type.
