Question Front Brake Rotor Q?Q?Q?'s

My fiance just purchased a 2002 Camaro that has 10K miles on it. She loves the car but the front rotors are warped bad. Is there a recall on the rotors or is she stuck having to get the rotors turned after 10K miles? What I am looking for is some sort of documentation referencing the problem. I know of the issues with the rotors on the 98-02 F-bodies, just want her to have something documented to take in with her to the dealer since I will not be in town. Thanks in advance.

No recall as far as I know...but that car should be covered under warantee. Take it in and have them changed.

Not to be a jerk, but they are not covered under warrantee. Brake pads, rotors, clutch lining, etc...

I used to write up customer complaints for Chevy so I know what I'm talking about. If the dealer does anything (even turning the rotors) I will be surprised as it comes out of his dealer "alotment" as Chevy still doesn't pay for the labor, etc...

Although some dealers will do it as a nicety with vehicles < 15k miles, so you may be in luck, but in all honesty, if the dealer does, he really is being nice.

Sorry to hear about it though, hopefully something else is wrong that caused them to warp so fast, and then the dealer would repair it under warrantee because of the other warranteed item (caliper, etc...) caused the damage.

Just buy some aftermaket rotors and install new pads if the dealer won't help you.

My dealer told me they were covered 12 mo. and 12k miles. They just turn or replace them. I think they will back them up for 12/12 after they fix them too. I just put O'Rieley's rotors (made in USA, Wagner Rotors) on the girfriends '01 at 44k. They are regularly $49 each but they matched the price of Auto Zones (China made) rotors that were $39 each. Both looked thicker on the rotor faces than stock. Glad I could buy "American made" rotors. Later>>>>>

AutoZone rotors hold up much better than stock and pretty cheap. You might add Raybestos Quietstops at the same time.

Plain and simply... stock rotors on f-bodies SUCK. When I used to have my V6, I bought it brand new. They warped at 7,000 miles. Got em turned under warranty, warped again at 9,000 miles. So I drove with em warped until like 20,000, when I said screw it and bought front/rear PowerSlot's, and HawkHPS pads. I had them from 20,000, until 47,000 when I told the car, and to the day I sold it, they were still running smooth as can be. For the price I think they're very nice rotors. For $110 per front rotor and $90 per rear, plus the price of the pads (not too much either), they're a very good investment IMO. As soon as my brakes on my T/A go out of warranty I plan on getting a set on it as well.

GM had so many complaints about the stock rotors that they actually revised the warranty to consider the rotors a non-wear item up to 12K miles. Buy some Powerstops or Powerslots and you'll be happy.
