I have searched and read many threads regarding low oil pressure and fluctuating oil pressure and it seems most of them have been bad oil pump O rings after cam installs.

The oil pressure gauge on my 99 camaro will sometimes read normal and steady but sometimes (more at idle) it will fluctuate very rapidly. It seems to stay around normal pressure between 30-60psi but the gauge will go wild sometimes and shake very quickly, sometimes it stops and other times it goes on for a while. It usually stays steady between 50-60 psi when driving at higher rpms.

My motor is stock with 80k. I had my buddy who is a mechanic hook up a oil pressure gauge at the oil filter location in place of the filter and the pressure read fine even though my gauge was moving around.

I just want to see if you guys think it is just a oil pressure sensor or gauge problem.

By the way there isn't any knocking or ticking and the gauge has been doing this for a while.

 

If the manual guage says that your pressure is fine then I'd recommend changing the sending unit first.
