Post Flowmaster Muffler vs. Catback

I was thinking of which exhaust to get for my 99Z. My buddy knows someone with just a flow master 2 chamber muffler, and he said it sounds great. Im just woundering is if I did get the cat back, would I see any performance gains?

Thanks
Adam

I have the Flowmaster exhaust on my Z, and I love the sound. Also, I could feel a noticeable difference b/w stock and the Flowmaster power wise. For the price, I don't think it could be beat!

I've got a Flowmaster 80 on my T/A and I love the sound. It doesn't have the usual "Flowmaster Drone" on the interstate like some other cars I've driven.

My Flowmaster is loudest at about 2,300 - 2,500 RPM, which is higher than the usual drone at 2K (especially on a Mustang). With the M6 tranny, I'm nowhere near 2,500 RPM when cruising the interstate and it's nice and quiet.

Performance gains? No clue. I bought the car used and the Flowmaster was already installed, so I don't have a baseline dyno run to compare against.

I've done the dynos on a Flowmaster muffler over a stock muffler. And the net gain on a Flowmaster is zip, nadda, nothing, not a damn thing.

If your goal is performance gains, Flowmaster is not the answer. Now for sound it's a different story. If you want a head turning sound, for not a whole lot of cash, you could do worse than a Flowmaster - but list it under your appearance mods, not your performance mods.

Actually, a full Flowmaster catback only nets about 10hp. If you want performance, just add a cutout, to you flowmaster. With that you will have the performance you want, and trust me a very very noticable sound....Good Luck
