Flowmaster or Borla Exhaust for an '02 Z28?
I just bought an 02 Z28 and I was wondering what exhaust to put on it. I want a much louder sound and an increase in horse power. Also what is a good cold air intake kit? K&N? Thanks for your help.
Re: Flowmaster or Borla Exhaust for an '02 Z28?
Personally, neither IMO. But between the two, Borla because it definitely flows better, sounds more aggressive, and is stainless steel with some "unique" looking tips. Don't get me wrong, I actually like the deep tone of the Flowmaster a lot, but it isn't very loud on a stock car and doesn't flow very well once you start adding the mods. This has been dyno proven BTW...
For the price of the Borla though, do yourself a favor and get the GMMG cat-back system. It is stainless steel and flows just as well as the wide-open Borla set-up, but sounds soooooooo much better (especially once you add headers, highflow cats, and a cam). I have it on my LS1 with some Kooks longtube headers & highflow cats and wow, what a great deep, refined muscle car tone all the way to redline that is also very loud too.
Much deeper and more refined than the Borla or Loudmouth set-ups...
However, just go with the system that you like the best...

although i have the gmmg on my lt1 (supposedly sounds better
) it really is a great exhaust systemhas that true muscle car sound (flowmaster comes close though) and it WILL make that great sound all the way up to redline as mike pointed out
definately a nice system (a little steep on price but if you're looking at borla, you can afford it
)if you do decide to go the flowmaster route, let me know
i got a system here for sale (can be slightly modified to fit your setup)

Re: Flowmaster or Borla Exhaust for an '02 Z28?
Smart move on the GMMG, i see the guys already talked u into it. U won't regret buying it, i get compliments on mine all the time. I had some guy drive his car over to where i was out at some big hangout place just so he could see my exhaust up close cuz he heard it and saw it was a GMMG. Another time i was at a dominicks parking lot and some guy in a LT1 walked up to me cuz he wanted to buy an exhaust for his and asked me what it was, seemed like he was set on buying it once he found out what kind it was. Looks nice, peforms nice, and sounds nice, especially once u add LT's, i got offroad pipes on mine, still sounds good, not raspy which a lot of guy with the borla's can't say i don't think.
Re: Flowmaster or Borla Exhaust for an '02 Z28?
The only setup that would sound better than the GMMG or even a Flowmaster is true duals dumped at the axle with an X pipe. It's very deep, kind of that ground shaking tone we usually associate with bigblocks, and it gives great power gains throughout the rpm range. For mufflers, go with Sweet Thunders over Bullets.

I was gonna say something like what mebanditWS6 said, i might actually be thinkin about doin that. And like he said about the sweet thunders, if i'm right those are the same mufflers that are in the GMMG. Either way works, i'm stickin with my current set up for now though. I do have a question about gettin duals dumped before the axle...........Does it hit the ground a lot? i'm not sure how low they sit.

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!........Get Borlaaaaaa!!!! Trust me. Borla is better. borla can be wide open or restriceted with plates. there will be cases where the plates will be needed. GMMG is not GM if any of you think this. borla gives a 15-20hp gain and maybe more depending on your mods. yo can get it on ebay if price is of concern. used is not bad. pound for pound, $ for $ borla is the right way. I challenge anyone to prove otherwise.(that means SHOW PROOF)

hears a link at thunder racing: http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...sid=17&pcid=53
I suggest you go to borla's website.

Borla doesn't sound bad, but a friend of mine has Borlas on his 94Z that's otherwise stock with all emissions stuff. If you were to listen to it with your eyes closed, you'd swear it's a Z71 Silverado with a catback. He runs it with the plates out too. To me, it doesn't sound like a muscle car.

they tested a cutout vs. the gmmg and the difference was barely anything, like a couple of hp if that (on a 600 hp car at that)
so i would say either borla or gmmg would flow for whatever he's gonna need
Re: Flowmaster or Borla Exhaust for an '02 Z28?
I was wondering if anyone here has an oem muffler they'd want to part with?
I recently bought a 98z28 with a flowmaster and prefer the quiet factory setup. Yeah I'm probably a little older than you guys. Let me know.
Thanks
Pete
