I would guess 10-12 F cooler IAT temps than what he/she was seeing before they installed the FTRA.

FTRA was the original. SSRA is plastic and won't heatsoak. You can also get the SSRA without the scoop if you are worried about parking. Either way you will be happy

There has been numerous testing to show that the FTRA cools down immediately when you start moving. Heat soak is not an issue. However, we do have customers that use Ice Packs on the FTRA to actually cool the air down lower than ambient. Some even inject Nitrous up through the duct so no one can see it

Why pay extra for an SSRA when the FTRA performs just as well and also includes a block off plate?

yeah i can't imagine heat soak from in front of the radiator is that much to be concerned about.

although if it does heat up...i doubt that 13sec would give enough time to cool off that much...i'm sure some...

i'm happy with my SSRA.....no offense to you guys Fast Toys....i think it gives marginally better gains with the lower scoop, and i've never had a problem with rain.

i've even driven mine in hurricane rain....stopped under a bridge and pulled the lid...no water at all.
so i was convinced.

We've sold thousands of units and only two people have ever reported problems both of which admitted they got caught in flooding conditions stuck in an underpass and other vehicles were dead there too.

We do include the block off plate which will disable the kit and can also be used for testing.

T304 stainless steel is going to last forever and our kit is very hard to see once installed (stealth)

If you do a search on LS1TECH you will find a post from a guy that did IAT temp testing to test if the FTRA heat soaked and he found that temps were within a few degrees of ambient (the best you can hope for).

We've said it before and will say it again... since the top portion of the SSRA is almost identical to the FTRA, it's highly unlikely it will perform any better. There is a LOT of air movement under an fbody when in motion and we are pulling air right off of the lower air deflector which was specifically designed to channel air up into the area where the FTRA ram air plate sits.

Save the extra money and get the original ram air kit, the FTRA Lots of people have downright copied our design or large portions of it for a reason!

Odd ... every test I've done had the IAT at ambient, regardless of the induction system.

Depends upon the parameters of the test. With the free ram air the starting line IATs were as much as 40° higher than ambient but were back to ambient by half track, as seen on my autotap scans. With the SSRA my starting line IATs are very close to ambient ,within a couple of degrees, and drop a couple of degrees below ambient by the end of the track, maybe due to wind chill??

The IAT's were 10-12* cooler with the FTRA on than without it. I let the car cool down then used AutoTap to monitor the IAT's when I went for a ride without the FTRA. Came back did the FTRA install while the car cooled down again and then went for another ride and the IAT's had dropped 10-12*. This was not just a temporary drop in temp either. With the FTRA on the IAT's were matched with the ambient temp...... with out the FTRA the IAT's were 10-12* warmer than the ambient temp. I guess it was the "scooping" of cooler air from outside the engine compartment that caused the difference.

Its a good product.
