Fan temps ?
Re: Fan temps ?
on at 185...off at 180
i know my car runs pretty steady at 170-175 (using a scanner) in florida heat when i'm moving. that should keep the fans off on the highway and in light traffic, but keep the car cool in heavyer traffic.
i know in when it's in the mid 80s out, and i have the fan switch on HI...it will pull the coolant temp to a consistent 172/3 and stay there.

Re: Fan temps ?
those seem pretty reasonable....not sure how well the first fan will cool the engine, as in...when it's on...will the temp still rise (albeit slower) or is it enough to maintain or drop the temp?
for me...even in Fl...i dont see a necessity to reprogram the fan temps.
the car was designed to have the fans turn on much higher...so it's not like it will hurt the car....just performance a little.
i've had a 160 stat in camaros for 3.5yrs and have NEVER had the fan temps changed. for my driving, i never need them to be different from stock. if i get into traffic do i really care if i lose 5hp from heat?
and for track and traffic jams i have my fan switch
i just hate it when people insist that lower stats are worthless without altered fan settings...cause that's BS

Re: Fan temps ?
The only reason I would change the settings is for engine tuning like more spark advance which will require the motor to run cooler all the time without detonation or pinging. Teke is right. It's pure BS that you won't get benefits from a 160 without different fan settings, but being under 195 in traffic on a hot day instead of near 220 when the fans come on is definitely a plus as far as keeping detonation down.
