I have been told, will gain around 3 - 5 hp .....

"The purpose of the exhaust cutout is to bypass the remaining exhaust system after the point at which the cutout is installed. When you bypass the remaining exhaust system you are making it easier for the engine to get rid of the exhaust. Therefore, you will gain horsepower and torque by making it easier for your engine to work. The factory exhaust system is restrictive and holds back the full potential of it". <----- installuniversity.com

Well, right as I got my WS6, I got a 3" FlowTech cutout right away as a temporary thing till I can afford a Borla cat-back. It sounds sweet as hell though. Of course it would sound better with headers, hi-flow cat, and 3" pipes all the way, but the 2.75" pipes still sound really mean, and turn every head that you drive by! At low RPM's it's really deep and rumbly, and as you slowly accelerate through the RPM band, it slowly turns from a rumble into a full roar! For the $35 price tag of a cut-out, I'd say go for it. You won't be disappointed. Just be prepared for some rattling in the car around 2,000 RPM's, as 2,000 is when the cutout gets the deepest, and will rattle some parts of your car! But hey, if you like loud, then a cut-out is for you. I sure know I love it, and it convinced a friend of mine with another WS6 to get one as well.
