Found this on the web from a guy with an account with Alldata:

"The EVAP large leak test is based on applying vacuum to the EVAP system and monitoring the rate of vacuum decay. The PCM uses the input from the FTP sensor in order to determine the rate of vacuum decay. At an appropriate time, the PCM turns the EVAP canister purge valve on (open) and the EVAP canister vent valve on (closed). This allows the engine to draw a vacuum on the system. At a calibrated time or vacuum level, the PCM turns the purge valve off (closed), and tests the system vacuum. If the system is unable to achieve the calibrated vacuum level, the PCM will set DTC P0440."

Sounds complicated. I'd try resetting the PCM, if the code returns you may need to take a trip to the dealer. Hope this helps.

Most EVAP codes are simple and inexpensive to repair. At my shop in Ga. we do Emission's testing & repair's so we see quite a few EVAP codes. Sometime's it is as simple as a new gas cap, other times it may need a solinoid replaced in the system,GENERALY it is inexpensive to repair. We have Alldata at the shop but without testing individual componets on your car your just guessing. If you get any other info on your problem e-mail me and if I can help you in any way will be glad to.

Thanks everyone for the help. I went to the chevy dealer today, they printed me about 20 pages of stuff to read. I have a few things to check and after that I'm lost. I put a new fuel pump in a few weeks ago, they said the hose going to the canister my be lose or not connected. Then theres one by the drivers side valve cover. I changed the pushrods also so I may have left it poorly connected. If thats not it I may have to get up with you SS Rally Red.
