engine swap!

hey guys im thinking about buying a 1998 z28 LS1 and putting it in a 96 or 97 z28 body. would it be cheaper for me to put the engine in the 97 z. or would it be cheaper just to buy a 98 z?

Re: engine swap!

The swap will cost you more than a '98, and that's not even accounting for the few grand you could get for your '97. If you don't like the look of the '98, it'd be cheaper to swap out the body parts than it would to do the engine.

It would be cheaper and faster for you just to rebuild your lt1.

When you say faster, do you mean the car would be faster (maybe, depends on the build), or that he'd have a working car sooner (maybe, depends on how quickly he can find the car he wants)?

I'll just register one official vote against cheap engine rebuilds. There's no such thing. If you skimp, it will come back to bite you in a very expensive way. There are exceptions (e.g. experts doing the work themselves), but none of the exceptions apply to the OP, so let's not pollute this thread with them.

Re: engine swap!

I just figured since I could do a motor build my self with just having others doing machine work on the block, any one could do it. But yes it all depends on the abilities of the owner, for someone who never has rebuilt a motor then yes the ls drop in is the best bet. In this case I would have to agree his best bet would be buying a 98 or newer f-body; all depends if he likes the ls1 f-body look or the lt1 f-body look. Only reason to drop the ls1 into the lt1 car would be do to the appearance preference. If your willing to travel great deals on forums can be found here is a nice car at a decent price http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/vehicl...28-modded.html.
