engine knock?

so i was running my buddy in his mustang... and we stop and i start hearing a knocking sound coming from the engine.. my oil pressure went down to 40 and when i gave it gas the knocking sped up. no oil leaks... could this be a bad oil pump? any suggestions? thanks

It's probably a spun bearing.

What type of mileage on the car? How long have you had it? This is definitely something new, and not the normal LS1 tick/clatter/knock sound??

If it's definitely a new sound, and the oil pressure has taken an obvious drop, then yeah, sounds like a bearing gone .

You might want to pull the oil filter and cut it open; inspect the filter media inside for metal filings/shavings ..... that's often a good indicator of parts failing.

If this is the case, time for a nice LSx stroker motor!!!!

pull the valve covers and check for broken springs, loose rockers etc...

so yeah i went and looked at it again last night and checked the oil level and it was low... i put two quarts in and it did nothing... no leaks or anything. Still making the same noise. I am thinking it now may be a rocker. If so so much will this be to repair?

depends on exactly what's broken...

could be bent pushrod, broken spring, messed up roller bearing on the rocker.

all are gonna be a few hundred to fix.

good time to upgrade

2 quarts is kinda low to be racing.

I'd be surprised if you didn't spin a bearing or something.
