dyno results, what about your ls1

I had my 2000 ss dyno'd without any real mods, K&N filter system and slp loudmouth, oh yea street slicks, I dyno'd at about 320wrhp and considering i have a a4 i have a 20% drivetrain loss, so i have 400hp at the motor. i have raced some people, (c5 6 speed, firehawk both 2002 and a few other cars) beat them by at about 3 car lengths, why did i dyno this high, or is this normal, did gm under rate the car that much? either that or my car must have a slp package, anyone have any ideas, or can anyone contact slp so they can run my vin #

The cars are underrated do a seach on the board. Your probably making 375 tops at the motor if you have a factory freak.

how can i be at 375 if an automatic looses 20% and i have 320 at the wheels. that comes out to 400, its not weather i have it or not, its how i have it.

Prove that it looses 20%. Some say it's as low 15%.
You'll never know for sure unless you're going to take your motor out and get it on an engine dyno.

Cool

Yes, 20% is a bit too high to use. The way I've figured it by reading articles and listening to professionals is that somewhere between 16% and 18% is much closer to truth.

Engine dyno will tell the truth, of course, but kinda hard to accomplish for just an everyday hotrodder... Unless you got $$$ to burn, of course.

320 w/just loudmouth and a K&N (gains are debatable...) is still pretty respectable number, though. Congrats!

What did you dyno exactly? You said "about" 320

Search the old threads and you will see that 320 is about par for a car with loudmouth. The K&N gains have not been proven by anybody (maybe 1 ro 2 HP). I dynoed 302hp BONE stock. I've seen people put down 315 BONE stock. And like everyone said, drivetrain loss is a guess at best unless you take the egine out and dyno it. I think the rating for the corvette is about right for all ls1's - 350 for the motor.

Wow! nice numbers. Only explanations are you have the slp package or your cars a factory freak. Being that you have a 00 with LS1 intake and A4 trans, your car should dyno about 295 RWHP bone stock (assuming no slp package and stock airlid). Add about 10 RWHP for the loudmouth and you should have seen roughly 305 RWHP.

So by my estimates you dyno'd about 15 RWHP more then what I would have guessed so grats on the freak and sweet numbers. Now get some LT headers and see what that beast will dyno

He said K&N "system" ... so we could be talking an FIPK here.

In that case 320 rwhp wouldn't be out of the ballpark with a loudmouth ... 10 for the loudmouth and 20 for the FIPK ...

Also prior to '02 the only thing that SLP did to give a HP kick was the exhaust ... all the rest of the options were either appearence or handling ... and the '02 got a factory lid ...

Actually after rereading the first post he said K & N filter system. I was assuming he only has a K & N filter which adds 0 HP. But if it does in fact have a K & N FIPK then that is good for 15 RWHP and puts my estimate at 320 RWHP which is right where he is.

Good catch on that one. If you have FIPK then your numbers are perfectly normal but if you only have a filter then you have a freak and enjoy it.

320 + 20% = 384 FWHP

Yes, but 20% of 400 = 80
And no, I dont think your car is a freak, also, I find it hard to believe you put 3 car lengths on those cars. Driver is going to be the contributing factor here IMO. Congratulations on your driving ability.

interested in 1/4 mile times and mph.

I agree it should be 384 not 400. the correct math should be RWHP * 1.2 = Crank HP. This gives you the 20% more that are lost in the drivetrain.
