Dumb questions but need answers?
I was wondering if a A4 tops out at the same speed as a M6? Which one gets there quicker in your opinion? Also what is that top speed? All with an LS1 of course!
All of the published numbers say that an LS1 tops out at 158-162mph. I can tell you personally that mine pulls like crazy up to 140, but I chicken out above that. I would think that the gear ratio is going to determine what the top end of each car is. auto's and manual have different ratios, so it is kind of hard to compare apple to apples.
The A4 will get to about 100 - 110 quicker then an M6 (typically), but after that the M6's extra gears for top-end will show and the M6 will catch up and pass the A4 up to the max speed. That's why A4's shine on the dragstrip
Don't believe me? Ask all the M6 LS1's I tore up at the dragstrip when my car was stock except for a lid/cutout and they had many bolt-ons
Freeway racing is where M6's shine, hehe.
Oh, and depending on the gear ratio, stock LS1's will top out in the 160's. Hard to really tell exactly since the speedo's don't go that high.

just messing with yea bro
Well, lesse, in an automatic tranny you got hydraulically-actuated gears working through a series of pressure bands which are calibrated to open and close at predetermined throttle settings and speeds. Whereas in a mechanical tranny, you got helical-cut gears....and a stick. Power loss due to friction and fluid dynamics would mean an M6, properly driven, would be quicker. But, if you have you auto tranny programmed to deliver higher fluid pressures (Predator, HHP tuned) and shift higher in the engine's power band, then it come down to the loose nut behind the wheel!
Which is faster, A4 or M6??
I'd say they'd both top out around the same speed, but it really comes down to gears, and what each one will "theoretically" do top speed. IMO, the M6 will get to top speed a little quicker than the A4 ('cause top speed ain't reached by the end of the 1/4 mile
) since they've got closer ratio gears than the A4, which keep the engine closer within the power band the whole way through. Also, standards usually take a little less engine power to turn than autos.
While the top speed of LS1 cars is limited around ~162/163 mph, I think without the limiter, and a good stretch of road, they'd probably be able to go even faster (especially the M6, since they will hold solid in each gear..................autos do whatever in hell they want!?
).
