Does this sound right?

Does this sound right?
I get a SES light that comes on a lot. It stays solid and comes on at highway speeds. It will turn on and stay on, then will go away after 3-5 short trips. I don't really notice any differences, it doesn't run rough or anything.
I had it scanned a while back, they said it was the EGR. I called a different dealership to take it in and when I told him the situation he said it probably isn't the EGR or the car would be running differently.
What do you guys think? THANKS!

It sounds like an emision system problem, egr is a good start, my car didn,t run any different either but the egr valve was the problem, have the other dealer scan it also, and have then put a new one on if it is, simetimes they will just clean them. Hope this helps!

An SES light indicates an emissions problem (which EGR relates to) and it is VERY unlikely you'd notice the impact on the engine - not a performance related issue. But since your light comes on and off, it has to be an intermitent problem. If still under warranty and in an area of emissions testing, I'd get it fixed (as you'll fail a test most likely). Only serious if you have to pass emissions (or if you hate little orange lights...).

Yeah, I do have a smog test coming up in about 3 months. My friend told me that they might try to say it just needs cleaning so they can charge me for cleaning the EGR and later on again when I need an actual new EGR. He said if it is an EGR problem, to just tell them to install a new EGR and to clean the lines/pipes (I forget exactly).
I'm so sick of that light, I don't care if I have to pay for this thing to get fixed.
I just hope that they clean the line/pipe too when they install the new EGR.
