Post Does this sound like a good deal? 98Z28 for $7200.00

That's what I paid for mine I bought 3 weeks ago. It has 113,000 miles tho. It has auto, cruise, elec windows, t-tops. Pretty much every option available including the crap monsoon sound system. What did GM think when they installed this crap radio with it's crappo paper speakers? I will soon replace the deck with a Sony Xplode 700mx. The speakers will be replaced with either Rockford Fosgate components or some good Pioneer 3 ways. Then Ill run a good amp to the highs and and add 2 JLW3s 12s and probably push them with a Kicker ZR240 in a 2ohm mono load. Should be a pretty good sound setup there.
2 problems I don't like about the car are. Cigarette burns in the carpets and seats up front. Any good places to get replacement covers and new carpet for the car? I also have a cracked windshield which I have to replace. How much would that run? I beleive the car needs a good tuneup too. To run at it's best. After 113k miles the plugs and wires may need to go. I am looking to install that Dynomouth exhaust system also. Sounds pretty mean if you ask me. Does that Dynomouth muffler have all the correct exhaust hookups to run it dual out correctly? Or do I have to custom cut the muffler to make it work? The standard 5 star aluminum wheels I love just fine and I have brand new tires on the car?
Any good cheap mods I can do to get this car in the low 13s or high 12s? How about a good place for replacement parts or for anything concerning Z28s?

Sounds like a good deal to me. Good luck replacing the plugs and wires, since a 98 doesn't have any. First mods should include your exhaust of choice and a high flow air cleaner lid. As for the Monsoon system, my 2002 still sounds good, but being a Delco radio yours is probably about due for replacement. Year One should be able to help with seat covers and carpet.

No plugs or wires? So what does it have? And how would I tune it up then? What would a typical tuneup run?

98 and later models have a coil on every cylinder. These are not replaced unless they are faulty. Tune-ups are basically just a matter of changing filters as required and cleaning the fuel system with a BG treatment or something similar. If you have the owners manual it will tell you the intervals for changing filters and fluid.

Premium sound system with paper speakers. Keep in mind the speakers at the back seat are crossed over which does a lot for sound seperation. The set up you mentoin sounds good, though. I would change every fluid in that car, trans, coolant, differential, etc... and DO change your plugs and wires. There is one coil per cylinder, but it still has short wires and platinum plugs. Resistance in those wires is rising and you want to chanrs them BEFORE they go bad. This way, you have a fresh start. Good find at a good price.

Uhhh... actually there are plugs and wires to replace. Once you do that, you could go for an exhuast system of your choice and an air lid. I would also highly recommend sub-frame connectors.

No plugs and wires? Thats a good one...just because we have a coil per cyl, doesn't mean that we don't have plugs and wires.

Those should be replaced ASAP (along with all fluids).

My very large mistake. I had been told by someone who should in theory know these things that the LS1 did not have wires. Lack of sleep maybe caused me to include plugs in that statement. So today at work I looked up the ignition system, and of course there are wires about 7" long. I should have verified this before I passed the info along. A thousand apologies.

Smallwood--

No problem buddy, we all make mistakes. I wish we didn't have spark plugs that we had to change

I really don't look forward to changing those things.

Having the coil on every cylinder only eleminates a distributor, not plugs and wires. We still have those, and wouldnt get very far without them

While I think the Dynomouth sounds great. I have heard it. The Magnaflow crossflow style muffler sounds very good to me too. It seems to have that low rumble Borla sound. Which I like. Unlike the tiny tin can Flowmaster sound. The Magnaflow muffler just looks like it would be easier to install. Than the Dynomouth would.
