Re: does LS1 have lowend torque

The LS1 owns the LT1 in every which way possible. Some say the LS1 was designed by God himself. Others say the LS1 itself is God and created the universe. People who don't believe in God say that the LS1 is invincible because it has magic inside!!!!!!!!11111111111111oneone

Re: does LS1 have lowend torque

My M6 LS1 is mostly stock (lid and catback).

Here is my best timeslip, on crappy hard street tires (BFG KDWS) and me still learning to launch the M6 at the track.

60': 2.121
330: 5.730
1/8: 8.641 @ 85.23
1000': 11.120
1/4: 13.217 @ 107.55

Someone with a mostly-stock LT1 on street tires, please post your timeslip too so he can compare.

Re: does LS1 have lowend torque

Well I forgot about one of the main reasons i didn't want an lt1.........opti. My friend in his 97 ws6 replaced his drove to work and back one time and he had to replace it again........so what did gm use to fill in the function of the opti without the opti?

That said i think i am understanding what you all are saying....that the lt1 may have more percentage of its torque down low but the ls1 makes enough torque that even with less percentage downlow than the lt1 it still is making just as much if not more downlow.....yes?

I know you're just trying to make an informed decision, but there's informed and then there's over analyzing. Bottom line is, the LS1 is a vastly improved motor over the LT1. Are they both good? Hell yeah, but the LS1 is just flat out better.

Re: does LS1 have lowend torque

An LT1 may jump me off the line, but by the end of the 1/4 I'm car lengths ahead.
An LT1 dynos ~ 20 less RWHP and ~15 less lb/ft torque (and the LS1 has a nice broad curve too)
Which do you want?

If you cam an LT1 you're going to move the power band up anyway, and you'll end up camming it to keep up with bolt on LS1s.

Re: does LS1 have lowend torque

not tryng to over analyze. just look at threads like "ls1 vs lt1" and the first thing lt1 guys say is torque so it's kinda confusing to a newbie buyer. it's a car that i intend to keep for the rest of my life, i just don't want to make the wrong decision.

But thanks for the info, i needed some ls1 points of view on that, i will find and ls1 and test drive the first chance i get, and i will probably go with what my research has shown me to be the better vehical stock for stock.

thanks again.

Re: does LS1 have lowend torque

...a couple of things you should consider about your question:

1. The meat of the powerband of a motor is not down low. If you are at the track, you only need the low end torque for the first 60', then you will NEVER see it again, so unless you plan to pull your RV or boat behind it, you are over analyzing the issue.
2. Is it a Chevy Small Block? Does it have 8 cylinders? Is it in a car with a reputation of being fast? If you can answer "yes" to any of these, than you should already know the answer.
3. You should be slapped my a man wearing a fur coat and a hat with a feather for comparing the LS1 to a Kia...its just blasphemous.

Re: does LS1 have lowend torque

Yes, the LT1 FEELS stronger for the first 3 seconds you mash on the throttle, but for the rest of your ride the LS1 pulls way harder than the LT1.

And to answer your question about the opti, the LS1 uses a COP style ignition (coil on plug) That means every spark plug has its own coil, instead of one coil powering one distributor for 8 cylinders. A COP style engine is going to be alot more stable at high RPMs.

Re: does LS1 have lowend torque

Don't slap me, slap the lt1 guys. their the ones that when talking about their car and the ls1, make it seem like they are going to walk away as if im racing with a tricycle. and being that i have only ever drove or rode in a lt1 and use to want an lt1 i kinda listen to those guys. but i see where the line is drawn.... write down the *** of lt1 guys

Thanks for the answer slayer, so the ls1 uses coil packs which for gm rarely go bad.

Ive been hanging around the LS1 sites for a while now, and I cant recall anybody having problems with the coil packs. The ignition system on the LS1 is pretty much bullet proof. Changing the wires is a breeze compared to the LT1. Depending on your exhaust system, changing the plugs can be better or worse.

exactly/exactly/this is why some LS1 owners **** me off.

I prefer the LT1, why does that make me a retard? Is the LS1 faster? Obviously; that's the whole point of making a next-generation engine, to make it better. But some LS1 guys feel the need to constantly talk about how bad the LT1 is. The LT1 is still a very respectable engine, the LS1 is better. Instead of calling the LT1 a P.O.S., give it the respect it deserves, and be confident that your LS1 is faster, don't be an arrogant *** about it and call anybody with an LT1 a retard.

he didnt call everyone with an LT1 a retard, he called those that prefer the LT1 over the LS1 retards..

and, as you pointed out, the LS1 is the superior engine, in every way (except maybe exhaust sound).. so i'd have to agree with him, anyone who chooses the inferior, over the superior, is a retard

Re: does LS1 have lowend torque

I have an LT1, and I would vastly prefer the all aluminum construction and updated design of the LS1. Cmon, its just better... I mean I love my LT1, but my next FBody Will have an LS1.

oh and BTW Bone Stock I ran a 14.4@ 96 mph on hard worn tires...thats with 150k miles and 2.73 rear gears

EDIT: Ignition system alone is reason enough to go LS1

Re: does LS1 have lowend torque

fs3800: if what you and the other ls1 owner says is true then you are tards....
because an milled and decked afteramrket mouse 350 is going to kick the snot out of the ls1, in fact i don't recall seeing one ls1 stock or aftermarket in pro stock car racing. even when is an 98+ f-body body they take the ls1 which really has limits when it comes to the champiopnship racing. even the c5 racing corvette doesn't use the ls1. so if shoosing inferior over superior is retarded you r are retarded for not throwwing your ls1 away and getting and aftermarket chevy, in fact aftermarket big block can produce even more power. So don't be nieve and inadvertantly call yourself a tard.

Re: does LS1 have lowend torque

Yes, the LS1 has loads of low end torque. That whole rumor was created by the LT1 crowd so they can save some face. I have raced more than a few stock or bolt on LT1's and I never have a problem taking them out of the hole.
