do LS1s have the same blocks as LS6s?

That's two different questions.
The LS6 block is different than the LS1 block. Stronger casting plus some new bay-to-bay windows.
*Some* LS1 f-body engines did get an LS6 block. It's mostly random though. Something like 20% of the 02 f-bodies got the LS6 block. Very few 01 f-bodies also - like < 10%.
As for your last question, an LS1 SS most likely has the regular LS1 block, but *may* have the LS6 block. An LS1 Silverado would have an iron LS1-style block, so it is *definitely* different than the SS.
peace,
Shane

The trucks use 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L cast iron versions of the Gen-III SBC engine, so none of them are using the 5.7L LS1 or LS6 blocks (especially considering the cast iron vs. aluminum difference).
Also, there was no rhyme nor reason to how some LS1's were built with LS6 blocks.........I guess it was luck of the draw?!

i was going to be buying a camaro relatively soon, is there any way to easily tell the difference between a ls6 and ls1 block. Such as markings, engine placement, manifold , etc. thanks, sorry, im a newb to ls1 engines.

well, the fastest easiest way is to look for the bullseye. If its not there, there is a good chance its an LS6 casting..
A casting # 12561168 denotes LS6 block. The number is located on driver's side, at back of left hand deck above transmission flange. Pretty hard to get a look at the number the way our engines are set back.

"do LS1s have the same blocks as LS6s?" Yes, for '03 on - i.e. Corvettes only. Some of us were lucky enough to get them in '02s though. Dull block/no bullseyes should be a giveaway for '01 and '02s, though Nemak did make LS1 blocks by the same method for earlier years (when the LS6 didn't exist).
