I just noticed this actually, when the car is cold and I let off the gas and coast it makes a thumping sound. The higher the RPM's the faster the thumping, obviously the lower the RPM's the slower the thumping. Is this harmful to the engine?

The times I've heard it, it has been more like a ticking noise. Not on my car, though!

Could you explain a "ticking" noise? I have noises too, but it's more like a "tap" than a tick or slap. When I bought my car, my dad said it sounded like valve tap, which is common in some type of valves (hydraulic lifters or something or other.)
