difference in headers from 98/99 to 00-02?

i see jegs is now selling a set of coated shorties for 00-02 fbodies for only $408

was wondering what the difference is between these and ones for 99/98? since they don't seem to meke them for the earlier ls1's yet...

i think it's just something with the size of the air tubes...is that right?

what would be needed to put thes on my 99?

i realize i won't gain much from shorties, but i want to keep ground clearance and since i already have my bassani ORP...i wouldn't mind saving up for shorties...and i'd be happy with 10 hp.

The difference between 99-99 and 00-02 on any AM header is the AIR bracket ... it's 90* from the other. Some manufacturer's 01-02 headers also eliminate the EGR .... but it can also be blocked off.

The headers between the years are interchangable, simply by either buying the AIR tubes for that year - about $80 - or bending your AIR tubes to fit ...

hmmmm...

what's involved with the blockoff/removal of the EGR? i've heard it but never seen it.

any "how to" pages that you know of?

how bout just a pic of the difference between the two, showing how i would have to "bend" my air tubes.

thanks for the info...this is all preliminary research as of right now.

got some info...

all i would need to do to install the 01/02 headers on my 99 would be the air/egr removal outlined here:

http://www.ls1camaro.net/sections.ph...icle&artid=70.

is that correct?

and i know pace parts sells the block off plates. hm...this project is looking better and better. headers and a cleaned up engine bay! me likes!

Sounds good to me. Wanna have a header installation party?

We'll do yours first for practice.

researching again...reviving old thread...

something i didn't notice on that "how to" page was that it says removing the AIR tubes doesn't trip codes...

KICK ***!

so if this is the only diff between the 00+ and the 99 headers, i can remove the air, bolt up the 00 headers and not have any problems.

the EGR connections are the same correct?

chuck...you wanna come down to do this install iin the keys or at your place? lol

ok...i have figured out what i'm gonna do...i'm gonna suck it up..

after some more research and some number crunching...

about $525 give or take for pacesetter LT's and 3" ypipe...all emissions hookups and coated.

figure i can sell my current bassani orp for maybe $100...

that makes the LT project very reasonable. and the power gains are undeniable.

i guess my next big purchase (this week ) is gonna be the LT's from the special at Texas speed.

i figure i'll keep the EGR for the time being, till i can afford a tune to disable it, but i'll ditch the AIR tubes.

get rid of the EGR. a basic tune is like 50 bux (gets rid of O2 sensor, AIR, and EGR)

Removing the A.I.R will set off the SES light because the computer checks to see if the air pump is working correctly. You will have electrical connections just hanging there. You can PM OBSSSD on LS1 dot com for A.I.R., EGR, and rear O2 sensor removal at $50.

hm...

i've tried registering at ls1.com but they dont allow hotmail acounts...and that's the only address i have.

and i may as well install the air/egr untill i can just get a full on tune...not like it hurt performance...at least not noticably.

i'm getting an AKM cable so i could get some free tuning software eventually too
