What is the best replacement coolant (red) other than dex-cool from the GM dealer? What do you guys use?

 

i just use the prestone dex-cool stuff, lot cheaper than buying from GM, and it's probably the same stuff...

 

I prefer the green, over the dexcool. But dont you LS1 guys have to use the dexcool.

 

Well we really don't "have" to. BUT, the Dex and the green are totally incompatable. If they are mixed at all then the coolant can and probably will turn to jello. So unless you can get a totally 100% flush it's not worth the problems that can follow. So most just stay with the Dex-cool.

 

Yeah well, i know you can go from dexcool to the gycerol or what ever they call it, the green. But you cant go back then with out a full flush cause the green eats it. so if you switch over you might as well stick to the green. I would just stay with the dexcool if i were the poster, like mentioned above.

What's the procedure we have to do for changing/flushing the coolant? On the airbox is says there's a special procedure for doing this.

 

The main thing is to open the bleeders to let the air out of the system, air pockets can cause all sorts of over heating problems. DO a search on coolant change, there are a lot of links in replies to sites with pics on them. I recomend shoeboxs.
