Post Clunking noise when I repeatedly engage and disengage the gas pedal at low rpms?

I have a 2002 Z28 with the A4 and just over 10,000 miles. On rare occasions when my car's rolling (or when my foot isn't pushing down on the gas pedal) at around 15-20 MPH, I would hear a clunking noise coming from around the suspension area once I push down on the gas pedal. I've had this problem probably since when the car had around 3,000 miles, but I've always thought that it was normal. Quite recently, I was driving with my Uncle in the car during highway traffic. He heard the noises and pointed out that those noises weren't normal and, at first, thought that maybe there was something wrong with the differential and then, later, thought that there was something wrong with the u-joint. Therefore, I made an appointment with the dealership to diagnose and repair the problem under warranty. Do you have any idea what my problem could be? Thanks in advance for the info.

Does it do it under decelleration and on slow left turns? Does it sound like it's comming from the differential?

If you answered "yes" to all of these questions, then it's probably going to be considered "normal" by the dealer and Torsen. They say the clutch packs are designed to slip like this. I say BS and it ain't normal. But, until the damn thing falls off in the road, they won't fix it for me.

I think I would say yes to all of your questions. Do you have more info regarding this problem? Thanks.

Take it to the dealer and get your new rearend. Do you have a slight whissle or whine above 50 mph when coasting?? If so these were my problems. I have the same problem and the clunking and it is the rearend on its way out. My dealer diagnosed the problem as a factory defect. Seems to be a 2002 problem. My delaer said they would just get a new set of gears but GM said its a defect in the pig itself and the new gearset will go bad after a few thousand miles. So I'm getting a entire rear end assembly. Go right to the dealer and tell them your problems and then if they are worth 2 cents they will find the problem and when talking to GM about fixing it they will get clued into the defect.

Is it from the exhaust, you could have a busted cat, cause is usualy bad gas or bottoming out hella hard. I have heard a few busted cats and it sounds like you are dragging a can when you accelerate and so on. What happens is it breaks and all the glass gets stuck in the muffler and rattles around which will drive you insane. Gears are more of a whineing sound, Had burned out my barings in the rear of my 99 gt and it sounded more like a train than a rattle.

Anyone else have this problem? I have a 2000 TA w/18K miles and you have described my problem perfectly. Noise from rear end on left turns and when decelerating. Finally got my dealer to hear it. Dealer adjusted backlash. Not fixed. Took it back and now he's saying I'm going to have to deal with it. Any suggestions from anyone?
