I've heard this same thing, only possible additon would be my earlier post about SES Code 0442 (EVAP - lean fuel) which I had cleared at Autozone. Anyone get this code along with this problem?
And lets say it is anyone of these things, whic is the worst to have - I would think the lifters????

Any Ideas as to what it could be?! I know that exhaust leaks make a sort of similar noise and so does a jammed valve or bad lifter... But only seems to show up on the freeway..but not even when I run it harder in town.. so im not sure. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

Always Premium.. I AM almost due for an oil change anywho and today I put some Additive in. So I will see if it clears up some. I am 99% sure its a lifter.. If I end up replacing the lifters any ideas on ways to soup her up while im in there?
Maybe you have a bad rocker or bent pushrod. But that probably wouldn't go away like you explained. Either way, check them all carefully before you get into lifters.
Since the heads have to come off to replace the lifters, that would be a prime time to do headers and heads/cam/intake. the cam adds some work, but the rest will be loose/removed. if the budget isn't there, a cam based on stock heads will still perk it up a lot.
If you dont do a cam, check the lifters really carefully. I had a tick I thought was a lifter at 33k miles. pulled em all, didn't really see much issue with them and put it back together with new ones. Noise still there. It ran ok, so I drove it another 15k miles and put in a built shortblock and finally found the issue.
What had happened is that I had a badly heat treated cam and a lobe edge wiped right off. you could barely see a knurled edge on the lifter roller (I had them around, so I went back and looked at em again). It almost needed a magnifying glass to see it. and with oil coating them, we missed it. the new lifter on that lobe was obviously beat to hell, when it got tore down the second time.
So basically, I took it apart too soon the first time. lol.
