Cheapest place to get LS6 Crate ?

There was a thread on here not too long ago about a guy who broke his LS1/etc and folks were talking about a buildup for it.

One guy suggested an LS6 crate and gave a website that advertised one for around 3k even. I have No idea where that was, just curious.

Before anybody makes any other suggestions I read other threads looking for the original. I know a 402 is the way too go, but still....3k even and your done.....Sissy way out of spending a little extra to go twice as fast but oh well. I just wanna know where to get one for that damn cheap in case I decide to be a sissy.

That's pretty cheap....however, you still need an intake manifold, ignition system, headers, etc. Look to spend an extra $1500+ making it right.

Turns out it's the crate LS6 that goes in the 04 or 05 Caddy. Somebody said it's rated at 400hp because of smaller exhaust ports, some parts may be different, etc. I'm not sure

I've been reading about people going the LS6 route to save money but eventually end up spending more later on for better parts to increase hp while still having a factory bottom end. I've seen you suggest a crate engine from someplace online. I can't remember where but they had stroker packages with forged bottom ends for relatively cheap.

I won't phrase the question as "how cheap could it be had" instead, "How much for a basic, well rounded stroker setup complete"?

Lotta h/c combo's out there, etc.

Look to spend around $8000 or so on a "decent" build with all parts: block, cam, valvetrain, tranny buildup, intake manifold, fuel pump, injectors, tune, heads, cam, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.

Just the bottom-end for an LS1 stroker is around $3000 (Eagle) to $4500+ (Lunati).

I think you can still get a 402ci forged LS2 shortblock from TSP for around $4000.

All LS6's rated @ 400hp. The LS6 in the CTS-V is the same as the C5 Z06.

Well, considering I have an M6 it would be outstanding to be able to pull off a total rebuild including clutch ($500+), Tranny rebuild (2000+?), plus the stroker build up, etc for less than 10k.

I agree.

Look to spend $10-12k for a properly built setup with few cut-corners.

BTW, it costs around $600 in hard parts to upgrade the T-56.

Hey thanks for the information on the matter. With further research I'm going to try and come up with a package not only for myself, but for anybody wanting to do a similar total rebuild for under 10k and list the options.

Too many threads about rebuilds, etc. Why not come up with one Ultimate thread about all the different options you could go with. For the total drag racers, 500++ hp seekers, they know what to get. As for the average joe that wants a good build up without burning his bank account it would be cool to have another great resource to look at so they could determine which package to go with.

I did an LS6 swap and did a complete write-up on what's needed and a price breakdown. Check out the link in my sig for my website to take a look. However, the "cheap" LS6 wasn't around yet when I did my swap

For some reason most of the usual Vendor's engine sections have been down for updating (Speed inc, TSP, TR).. I'm looking for an LS6 block also.

Well, that being the case. Check out this thread. Lotta good info on the swap/details about the swap/part changes to the block to make it work right. The 402 stroker package is awesome for a true drag racer ready to smoke anyone but for the budget guy going mild and STAYING mild. This is not a bad option.

Note how I said staying mild. Kraest pointed out many times in the threads I've researched that sure, this might be cheaper initially but if you want to mod it later/push it you'll be pushing stock GM parts and not forged/race ready parts. Consider that before you decide.

Yea! I have to say thanks on publishing all that. It really helped me realisticly weigh my options, since I was think about doing the same thing a year ago.

I ended up not going through with it BTW..

So what did you end up going with and what part of the LS6 swap turned you off?

To be honest, it was just the overall cost of everything just turned me off from it. Else the LS6 would have been perfect. New everything, relatively easy to get it to pass emission tests, and factory stock reliability.

Instead I ended up replacing the pushrods (a few were a little bent over time from an incident at the track a year ago, which was making a nasty ticking noise that got worse) out of my current LS1, and put in new plugs, and it runs great again.. I'll just leave it at that.

Then I bought a motorcycle..
