Oh, I should have made it clear I had the battery out and tested at Kragen. The battery is clearly in great condition.

I do agree with you. You can put a meter across a dead battery and get 12 volts (I've experienced that personally). However, it won't be able to crank your engine over.

Now I know it was the starter. I didn't notice anything until it wouldn't turnover. My engine turns over very easily. It didn't take much to push start it. Even after 6 years, all I have to do is twist the key, without pushing the gas, and it starts right up. Since the engine starts so easily, perhaps it covered over any signs that the starter was going bad.

The starter went out with no warning. It's just like a few years ago with my battery. I noticed a slight hesitation in the morning. I figured the drive to work would charge the battery sufficiently. But that afternoon, nothing. The battery was nothing but dead weight. Once I replaced the battery, the engine started up right away and the car stopped running like it was possessed which is another story.
