cam tool, how does this thing work?

I see on the cam tool it has a flat side along the rod. What is that for? Also how does this work? does the rod set below the rollers on the lifters? I was going to try and make some but I didn't know about the flat spot.

Re: cam tool, how does this thing work?

If its the rod that is about as long as your heads it is to hold your lifters up while you change your cam. You will use this tool so that you don't have to remove your heads to change the cam. You can also us magnetic retrivers and slide them into the pushrod holes and pull the lifters up but that is a ballzy move if you ask me. Go with the rods they work very well.

Check out our supporting vendor list. I think that Thunder Racing sells them.

i made mine from wood dowels, it worked very slick, spin the cam a few times and push the dowels in and pull the cam out for less than $3, i think they want like $100 for the actuall tool

5/16" x 20 1/4" long, i sanded the 1 end till it had a beveled edge on it so it would slide in easier, and the 1 on the drivers side was a snug fit so i sanded the dowel a little till it fit in nice and smooth
