cam selection
cam selection
my friends girlfreind smacked up her 2002 z28. i work at a bodyshop and we have to replace the entire front end of the car(from the firewall forward). need less to say we are pulling the motor. he was talking to me about swapping a bigger cam in. being how the motor is out now would be the easiest time to do so. he was wondering if there are any cams that are worth putting in with out having to change the springs. im a camaro nut but i really don't know that much about the ls1. let me know you guys think. thanks alot.

Re: cam selection
any cam besides the stock one will require springs. the GMPP Hotcam, and ASA cam will require at least a LS-6 spring but some people upgrade to the comp 918's, but then you never have to change springs again. don't forget the car will need a tune after a cam also. i would do all the bolt ons first and then worry about the cam. also is the car an m-6 or a-4. if a-4 get a torque converter first at least a 3500 stall.

Re: cam selection
Comp Cams LS1 Camshaft - 206 / 212 .515 / .522 112 LSA 800-5800 RPM Power Band.
that's one of th only ones i've seen that doesn't NEED new springs. stock are good to .525" or so.
it would be close...but you could run it.
