Which Cam to get???

I have a 99 Firehawk and most of my mods are listed below. I was wondering what cam size to go with that would insure that I can still take my girl out on a date, but then go to the track and throw down a good number. I really have no knowledge about cams so give me all the insight you have. Also if you could give links to summit or part numbers that would be awesome. Oh and I also will have it dyno tuned by Ed Wright so that isn’t an issue. Thank you!

Duration.

Do yourself a favor and read all of this:

Now do some more searches and reading until you understand the cam specs and what they do. Now make up your own mind as to which cam you want.

the tr224 on an auto should give you about 375rwhp on stock heads with a good tune.

step up to something like the FM13 from www.futralmotorsports.com and you'll be closer to 400rwhp. but drivability and noise will be less than ideal compared to the 224.

Alrighty I have decided that the TR 224 is the right cam for me. Now what other components do I need with it. I have heard that new push rods, and springs are a must. Is that the case with this cam?

Personally I would upgrade anything I removed, if you're gonna be in there just do it all at once. You will definitly need new springs and just be aware of this now, they will wear out alot quicker then with a stock cam. You should upgrade the oil pump, timing chain, lifters, springs, rods, and retainers.

Re: Which Cam to get???

i dont think you need to upgrade the lifters, unless you have ALOT of miles on the engine.

especially since changing lifters requires removal of the heads on the LS1...

You can get a cam kit, otherwise you're just getting the cam.

Re: Which Cam to get???

exactly...look into the kits from thunder racing. seems like i remember them having several kits, ones for just the cam and ones for heads and cam.

and as stated, it's advisable to upgrade the oil pump and timing chain. look into the LS2 chain, it's significantly better than stock and is about $35 or so.
