Here is my reply. I had a 99 Z28 auto. I put in a lid, filter, ported the stock MAF and throttle body, MAC headers & Y pipe, cutout and a midwest 3200 converter. The car ran 7.80 @ 88 mph in the 1/8th on the factory tires. Once you put a converter in the LS1 its a monster for the autos. I also drove the car 55 miles one way to work in this configuration with no problems what so ever for 30+K miles. That run ran out to a 12.222 @ 111.48 mph.

I always hear it is more expensive to mod an LS1 which is not true. A specific mod versus the same mod for an LT1 may be more expensive (roller rockers, but the LS1 comes with 1.7s from the factory. Why change? Some headers are $1000+ but you can see the $450 MACs work well, hell Pacesetter headers are $279 and just as good) But if compare the cost per ET it is more expensive to mod the LT1. It cost me $852 to run 12.2s on street tires. Compare the price to get an LT1 to run that.

Spend your money smartly and you will have a very quick car. Research your mods before buying.

Not knocking the LT1 either.

if u wanna go faster on the cheap then just soup up the LT1,youll save a few thousand dollars. LS1's arent magical, the biggest difference is they have heads that flow pretty well (for stock heads). Everything else is pretty much equal in terms of potential compared to the LT1,you can buy a set of heads for the LT1 (and have em flow way more than stock LS1 heads) change the cam and bam you have a screamer. Even ported LS1 heads vs. Ported LT1 heads are compareable in flow numbers, except LS1 has WAY larger ports so it will have a lot less off idle and low speed torque. Of course you might have a few headaches less with the LS1 considerin you can make decent power without removing the heads. You can leave it basically stock (stock cam) and still run respectable times for a street car AND still be emissions legal and all that.I say **** it,buy an old car big block it and be done with it, If you want mileage just get a 6 spd. installed.

Get the LS1 and never look back. You'll be very glad you did.

My buddy has a 01 M6 and just has a cutout and hurst shifter and ran 12.2 in the 1/4 on street tires , with the backseats taken out. We're convinced that the car is a factory freak because it dynoed at 321 rwhp. Like someone else said , the LS1 is more refined than our 93s. I am buying a 99 vette in the spring time and that has an ls1 in it so IMO, youre better off gettin a ls1 b/c with a few bolt on's your in the high 12's to low 13's and it can be a reliable daily driver as well

Changing the plugs and wires is still NOT easy. I am not even sure which one is easier. They are both a pain.

I have a 93 A4 Z28 and an 01 WS6 and my Z28 (modded) is much harder to drive and not a nice all the way around. The ride and feel of the WS6 is much better than the Z28. It's a lot newer and nicer inside, much better on the highway and around town. Better gas mileage than I've ever gotten with the LT1. BUT the LT1 stock seemed like a much "meaner" car. The LS1 can drive like a V6 a lot of times around town, making it more driveable IMO. I still have my LT1 because I think it is a better-easier- car to modify at the point I'm at. I'm kind of disgusted with the price of many LS1 mods and b/c of that have only done intake mods-and may only do a cat back at the most. I love both cars but I think the LS1 is a much better daily driver and the LT1 is a much better car to modify for price reasons (If I had the same mods to my LS1, I might have a different outlook).

Ok , I have owned 2 LT1's and now an LS1 . My modded LT1 can not beat my bone stock LS1 . I raced against the LT1 that I had in my LS1 . The LT1 has 410's , CAI , Dual friction clutch . And the LS1 is a bone stock setup w/a clutch that is slipping bad . It was even for a second , I leaped on him in second , and pulled away fast after third , and I mean fast ........The highway is a whole different world in A LS1 . And I have a friend who ran a 13.0 , easy in his 410 LS1 w/stock clutch and 410's w/shorties . Thats all he has . When He ran it he hung second and was spinning the drag radials thrue first gear . I raced him w/sreet tires at the track , and once we was rolling , he blew past me . The LS1 is a faster car , period . I have alot of friends with both and most of the LS1's they own run between 13.2 and 13.6 bone stock .

Plugs and wores are not bad at all in an LS1 , in a LT1 they are a beotch .

The head desighn is not just better stock , it is superior in terms of desighn . Produces more HP with the same flow numbers .
