building ls1 for high rpm

As the title says I am wondering what is the max rpm for a stock bottom end ls1? What things should be upgraded for around 7500rpm?? I havent really made a decision on how I want to build my engine but I'd like some info on high rev motors. Also if you decrease the stroke doesnt it let the motor rev faster/higher (provided cylinder heads and cam support it)? Can the LS1 be de-stroked? What cam specs should I look for? What kind of head flow should I look for? would it be better to go to 4.10s? or would it be okay on 3.42?

Is this even worth doing or would it be better to just use the stock (+500-700) rpm limit? If I didnt give enough info or am forgeting something please let me know. I just want to be informed.
TIA
My car: 2000 SLP SS, M6,!cags, lid, otherwise stock

edit: I should mention that for this mod I want something streetable. It doesnt have to drive easy, I'm willing to deal with it in traffic but want something that will kick a*s on the strip/highway

The rod bolts are the weakest part of the stock bottom end.

You'll need some stiff valve springs too if you intend to rev high or else you'll be dealing with a lot of valve float.

you want a street motor that spins to 7500 ????

why?

you can make 425-450rwhp with a h/c setup without spinning to 7000 even. and it can be done on a stock shortblock.

I just want info on it, not really sure its what I would do. I just was wondering because I saw a prototype motor for the 4th gen z28, it was a 302 that went to 7800 and made 425hp, just thought it was cool, wanted to see what I would need.

speaking of H/C setups I was looking at
http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=205&catid=47
with the TSP magic stick
would that (+bolt ons) put me at that level?

So I can safely raise the rev limiter to 7000? Should I go into the bottom end at all or would it survive every day driving like it is? If I'm only going H/C route I dont want to rip the motor apart

No, the rod bolts will definitely let go. You may get away with it once or twice, but they will not sustain that kind of rpm. When they let go, you can count on catastrophic results.

Magic Stick V.3 237/242, .603"/.609"

that's a pretty stout cam for a stock displacement engine....especially as a daily driver.

but that cam, with AFR 205s, tuned, with all the boltons should yield closer to 450rwhp i would think....or close to it.

something smaller like the Torquer from TSP or the FM13 from Futral would make 425hp on a h/c setup. and you'll only need to raise the rev limiter to 6600-6700 rpm or so.

AFAIK, the 5.3L, 5.7L (LS1/6) and 6.0L all use the same crank (same stroke anyway - 3.62"). I believe the 4.8L uses a shorter stroke crank (something like ~3.27"? ).

It may sound "cool" to have a high winding short stroke engine but its a strip only no torque gutless wonder on the street. The only racer who would build such an engine would be for a specific class and gear it for a narrow powerband.Build your street car for the street with torque in mind, the car will pull hard thru a wide range of RPM and be way more fun, plus keeping it under 6500 will make it live long without changing valvesprings every week

Yeah, what he said ^^^

I've also wondered about making a screamer of an LS1, but you're definitely going to have to pull the bottom end. While you could spend enough money to get a valvetrain that would spin that high consistently (chromoly pushrods, titanium crapola, etc.) your bottom end is going to hurt from it and it's hard to get rid of valve float with a pushrod engine. For a street driven car it'd be hard and expensive. Design a DOHC head for the LS1, I'll buy it, then we can both have a high-spinning LS1.

The GM camaro with the 302 was a destroked LS1. It was done as a play toy. Why do anything that silly to need extream $$$$$ to keep it together. Everytime the car was at a event and run it gets broken
