Blackened exhaust tip
Blackened exhaust tip
Hey Guys,
Does anyone here know why some exhaust tips are blackened and some are not. From my understanding, it has to do with how much oil is burning past the rings. Does anyone have a better understanding of this??

Someone may call be a liar but...
on the old technology stuff excessive blackened tips usualy means the car is running rich, now I assuem the new computer cars can auto adjust for that and maintain a perfect air / fuel ratio but there are a few things that could create that blackened look and Im no expert on the new tech stuff.
They all get that way over time. A lot of times its from the choke running the car with different mixtures when starting the car cold, even if the car is running fine. A good way to clean it is to coat the visible part of the tip, especially the inside with white lithium grease and let it sit on there for a few days and drive around then just wipe it out. I keep a good layer in there all the time beccuase i like shinny tips.
