axles in play

I have a 02 z28 camaro I noticed that there is about 1/8inch inplay in the axles and makes a clunk when yu push the car from side to side. Does anyone no if thats normal? The shocks feel really weak is that normal for a car with 2,700 miles on it. Thanks

p.s does anyone no of any good aftermarket schocks or will Gm relplace both things?
steve

any info please email me at Crabguts@aol.com:

Not sure about the axle play....seems odd. I believe they are still using the decarbon shocks. If you want of get better ones, go with some Bilsteins. Check with the sponsors here.

The dealer said it was common but I don't no. My dad was looking at my car. he then on the rearend pushed one side it made like a clunk noise. If anyone has a Fbody please try it and let me no if yours makes a clunck noise. they said it was common with all Gm cars and trucks. But when yu drive it doesn't make any noise. thanks steve

axle in Play

Hey I finally got some info about the axle in Play. I called a rearend place in ca that does these things and went to the libary to read about it. The guy that does it for a living says all camaros have play some more than others and 99 -02 have a differntial made by zexel torsen. 99 and below have differnt ones. In a book I read it says that the zexel torsen differntial non servicable /must be replaced as a whole unit. So if anyone has a 99 or newer car and its still underwarranty Gm will replace it..

dude its normal. ive had 2 different rears and 3 different posi units in my camaro, and they all had that clunk when pushing the car side to side. its just a small amount of clearance between the end of the axles and the crosspin or block(for torsens).
my 78 cutlass also has a clunk, as did several other f-bods ive worked on. nothin' to worry about.

That's the joy of the good ol' c-clip rear. Since all that's holding the axles in is two dinky c-clips with a pin through the middle, it's not hard to imagine some slop.

Sorry for the correction, but that is "END PLAY" in your axle and is normal like stated. Usually about 1/8". Not sure of the actual spec though. Later>>>>>>>>
