Best oil?

I try searching, but cant seem to find post for ls1 just lt1s. Anyways my car is a '98 ls1 with about 90,xxx on it and I have not done a oil change since I baught her. My brother said he saw HP TV and said they used "royal purple" on a SS. He also said that it just might be fake only to promote the brand. My car is stock right now and is a daily driver up here in Illinois. So if anyone can help me in choosing the best motor oil, tranny fluid, and rear end fluid? Thanks

Personally, I run Casterol 5w30 w/ a qt of 20w50 to quiet the piston slap..

Do a search on the RP oil, there have been a couple recent discussions/arguments on it.. IMO, the RP isn't worth the price for a DD..

Mobil 1 5w30, Syntech 5w30, Amsoil, any full synthetic. The Vette LS1's recommend Mobil 1 5w30. Same engine, so I'd use the same oil. Stick w/ the full synthetic and a good filter like the Mobil 1 filter.

Hope that helps.

Either Mobile 1 or Valvoline. I usually use Valvoline max life, full synthetic. I use 10-30 though. I like it. RP can get a little pricey, depending on your budget and how often you need to change your oil.

Search any of the LS1 boards for "german" and you will get plenty of info on the german castrol, a lot of people's top choice, example:

http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...ghlight=german

This is an excellent oil, but can be hard to find, even though it is easily available at my local AutoZones. A very good alternative is the M1 Turbo Diesel 5w-40 synth. I used to run this back when you could buy it for cheap at Wallyworld in the 4 qt jugs as Truck & Suv. They renamed it Turbo Diesel (have it now at Wallyworld) and cranked up the price, so for the same ~ 6 bucks a qt, I figured might as well go to the GC.

Don't worry about the TD being a 40, M1 oils are thin for their weight. Check the oil analysis comparisons on bobistheoilguy.com and you can see this in the numbers.

Dont use synthetic in either of them. Synthetic has been known to make A4's slip, not all of them, but its common. Also the rear ends on certain years do not like synthetic, I dont remember which though. Maybe someone will have more details on that, or you can search it.

Yep regular dino oil in the trans.

But the rear is fine with synth. There's nothing in a stock f-body rear that synth will hurt doesn't matter what year it is and 98's spec is for synth.

Now aftermarket rears or posi's can be different depending upon manufacturer. I go by their requirements/specs.

I run all synthetics..
I use Mobil1 for all my fluids when possible.
I only change the oil when I am told to do so by the oil change light.

I use Castrol Syntec 0w30.

It works very very well. I am in a warm climate, though.

I have been using AmsOil 5w30 for little over 30k in my car

Been using AmsOil Products over 100,000 miles. From DD to Off Roading. I have been very happy with the Results.
