Average Gas Milege For Ls1

I HAVE A 98 STOCK CAMARO Z28 LS1 WITH AFTERMARKET 18X9.5 rims with 275/40/18 and i am putting in 48 litres of gas in my tank each time i fill up (empty to full) with 87 octane gas and am averaging about 214 kilometers per tank. My car is an automatic and i drive the car very easy, no WOT at all. What do you think is causing my gas mileage to be so horrible?

The motor was designed to run on premium fuel. If the computer may be retarding timing, causing you to loose a bit of performance and milage. Try filling with premium and see if that makes a difference.

Then again, at youre only going about 130 miles per tank. How long is your average trip? Does the engine seem to be running strongly? Do you have any modifications to your car? Do you have a service engine soon light lighting up on your dash?

I got 15.1 city this time. I am happy with my ls1, I didn't exactly take it all that easy. My Z on the other hand only gets like 13.

Re: Average Gas Milege For Ls1

Hey im an german camaro z28 driver and i have installed also a couple of stuff.

1. Grenatelli Mass Air Flow Sensor
2. Direct Air Flow Kit with K&N Air Filter
3. TryFly 3 Zoll Performance Exhaust
4. Runs on Torq Thrust II 17x9.5

My petrol usement is 13 litres on 100 km. When i go very fast on the Autobahn i use 14 litres, not realy more and when i drive like my granny, i use 11 litres. All the time i use 96, 98 or 100 octane petrol (in germany its Super (96), Super Plus (98), V-Power(100)).

I hope it helps you. In the driving manual is written, that the car the minimum of 96 octane needs (are written in the german manual). I think the computer cant give any correct firing-rate to the cylinders with this 87 octane petrol. Its to mutch for the sensors i think.

From witch country you come? I think 87´ Petrol is so mad, no car can use it!? Or use you mixed petrol with oil or plumbum? Horrible man, keep the hands of from those petrols!

yeah, you shouldnt use leaded fuel. i know a few places in europe sell that and alot of people dont know the difference. Try using some injector cleaner and see if that helps any.

Re: Average Gas Milege For Ls1

Be sure that all usual maintenance has been performed to your Z28.

New Plugs gapped correctly according to your personal application.

New plug wires.

CLEAN AIR FILTER.(Can make a HUGE difference in milage).

Use a good injector cleaner.

Follow with a new fuel filter.

Correct tire pressure is a MUST.I use 32psi COLD on my car.

Check all brake systems for problems like a sticking caliper (I have seen this happen).

If your car has a fair amount of miles on her, check into a new set of O2 sensors. You should be looking to replace the front 2 sensors as they are responsible for relaying information to your car's computer about what air/fuel ratios are needed. The rear O2s are basically there to moniter the condition of your catalytic converters.

I usually get about 24mpg on the highway going about 70mph.I will get about 27mpg on the highway going about 55mph...

If someone buys a car like a V8 muscle car, milage shouldn't be high on the list of concerns...BUT,I do like to keep track of what kind of milage I am getting because it can actually serve as an indicator as to how well/bad the vehicle us running.

Hope there is an idea or two to check into that might help you out...

Oh,and I know it can be hard but, lifting up every now and then from the accelerator (as much fun as it is)can help your milage quite a bit as well!

Yes, but when he all the tipps use on his car, he never can fix that big difference in petrol usement.

I think the first problem is the mad petrol he use.

When i drive between Dresden / Pirna / Meißen on the Autobahn and go close to 270km/h i never use more then 14L / 100km.

He use 48L in 214km, thats 22,43L in 100km, thats horrible!!!
