Exclamation anyone have a towing hitch installed?

has anyone installed a towing hitch on their Camaro? I'm thinking of getting one installed on mine. U-haul has a class 1 hitch selling for $180.

It would be cool to pull a Seadoo with the car.

P.S. If you do, can you post pictures?

I know a seadoo isn't very heavy but the F-body was not designed for towing. I would rather buy a $500 POS truck to tow it than put a hitch on my Z28. Plus a hitch looks retarded on a Camaro or Firebird. Just my $.02.

I've been thinking about it.. to tow a little trailer for tires and tools to the tracks...

I saw this sweet custom setup where the hitch is hidden bhind the bumper and liscence plate. You pull down the liscence plate and there's the hole where you hook the hitch up.

Who wants to show up at the lake in a $500 POS? I have a 4wd Suburban to pull heavy stuff with but its a lot more fun to go to the lake with the ski behind the Z. I put the hitch on mine the first week I got it and have pulled a GP1200 all summer with no probs. I looked at making one of those hidden types behind the license plate but there really is not enough room on the new models to do it. Most people don't even notice the hitch on mine and the few that do, think it looks pretty cool.I tried to buy a hidden hitch for it but could not so I made one myself. Its bolted to the frame and removes pretty easily. I had it powdercoated black and it looks like it came from the factory with the car. I emailed you some pictures since I don't know how to post them here. If anybody wants pics, email me.

I had a u-haul hitch on my 94 Z28 , I saved the hitch and plan on putting it on my SS soon. It looks fine, you really don't even notice its there. The hitch was made for the car (bolts right to the frame) and the car can easily handle towing a small trailer, so whoever said its not made for towing, it doesn't matter if the load is small. The best part is beating people from the stoplight with the Seadoo in tow, actually it pisses people off because not only are they losing but they are losing to a car pulling a trailer..ha ha its hilarious, the look on their faces is priceless...!

this is another advantage of an automatic, but yeah i've seen the hitches on camaros and they don't look bad.

Yeah, it is fun pullin the holeshot from a light....with a trailer. Wonder if I can get Z rated trailer tires?
Why is an automatic an advantage here?

Wink

Draw-Tite makes a sturdy hitch that tucks up nice between the Borla twin pipes. The Z can tow up to 1,000# with no problems. I use a Wells Cargo 4X6 enclosed trailer to carry wheels & tires, easy-up, jack and tools and loads of other assorted junk to events. My '95 A4 has 130k miles and tows all of it at 70-80mph in OD. My '02 will still "pull" with the trailer @90mph in 6th gear. Don't overload the front of the trailer or you'll have very little front tire contact. Be careful and check your setup on the road frequently. Have trailered with a Z for the past 7 seasons with no problems.

Thanks for all the responses and for the pics, Capn.

For the person that said the Camaro can't tow, it says right in the manual that it's rated up to 1,000 LBS towing capacity.

I can't wait to get one now. The main reason I didn't want one because I thought it might look kinda lame.

Cap'n, if you're still around I'd like to see some pictures of this hitch.

PM me.
