Question Anybody running a Cheatr or Old man cam?

Just wanted to know if you guys are happy or want more cam?

Debating about swapping cams for something stock sounding down the road. I'll be using stock manifolds but might be swapping over to an LS6 intake and possibly a catback.

I'm sure you've read about Jason99TA's car. Have you?

Nope not yet, I'm still a fish in the LS1 game. Just got my car like a month ago. I'll look his posts up.

I know. I'm trying to keep a stealth approach because of warranty purposes.

Another sleeper cam: LS6 cam ('02-'04 405HP version) ... apparently "cheap" compared to most other aftermarket cams too.

How is the idle on it? I'm looking for completely stock idle. I read on LS1 tech that with the Cheatr cam you can still tell the car is cammed if you know your cars.

Re: Anybody running a Cheatr or Old man cam?

I test drove a Z06 about a year ago, and when I fired it up, it didn't seem to idle any/much lumpier than my Z28. I could hear a little different tone while sitting inside the car, but you gotta figure, the 'Vette uses a completely different exhaust system than F-bodies, so a different sound doesn't mean it's because of the cam. Basically, as far as I'm concerned, the idle of the Z06 sounded like a smooth "stock" idle to me, and any difference with a cam in your Z28 could be easily blamed on a cat-back exhaust or something (and not because of the cam).

I heard Jason's CheaTR cam'd car, and it sounded pretty stock to me. You can't really hear anything. If you stick your head IN the tailpipe you can hear what I'd describe as about 98% of a stock idle. This cam is versions after the first grind. Research continued to get a stock idle, and that's where it is now. In my mind 98% of stock, but extremely more powerful.

For all practicalities, I'd say it's a stock idle. If you get one, and you're not happy with the idle quality. Just have your idle raised, and then it will certainly smooth out.

OH, and when I heard Jason's car it was a cold start and still sounded how I described. Jason = Jason99ta

Re: Anybody running a Cheatr or Old man cam?

The LS6 is a stock GM cam and idles well.....stock.
The GT2-3 idles stock as well and is an LS6 on steroids.
The CheaTR would be the LS6 roid raging. Said to idle 98% stock-haven't heard one, but a bad plug can make and engine a little rough too. I'm sure the tune makes a world of difference.
The stealth cams are described as having a "nervous" idle.

Why would anyone want an aftermarket cam to idle like stock? Lump = some of the fun!
