Another Clutch question..
Another Clutch question..
Hope someone can shed some light for me!
The car:
2002 SS 335hp SLP car. Bought 8-18-01. (before the 345hp version was available..)
Mods:
K&N and Gran. MAF
My experience:
13 years of straight shift vehicle driving, not to mention learning to drive at age 12 in a straight shift vehicle. Not an expert by any means, just not completely inexperienced either!
My perspective on car:
Didn't buy it to race, often just laugh at peep's that want to race. Not scared, just not a drag racing kind of person. (not knocking anyone, I like dirt trackin better!)
Finally, the problems:
Have experienced the clutch pedal not releasing completely while taking off relatively hard 2 or 3 times. Engine wound up, tires not spin, then slowly broke loose and spun like crazy. (My first experience with anything like this, I even turned around and went back to see if there was something spilt on the road or something. Was very confused. Didn't smell clutch very much at all that time.) The second time, a good time later, it done it again, I let off of it before the tires spun, and felt the pedal slowly coming back up... At this point, I was kinda bumfuzzled again.. I could smell the clutch fairly good that time. I was highly aggrevated at this, but shrugged it off as I knew the local dealer would claim they all did that.. It still would catch 3rd w/o any problems, and not popping the clutch after the R's built up either, never had too.. All that happened before I put new tires on it. (embarrased to say it, but they are el cheapo Falkons, I didn't see what good it would do to put the higher dollar units on it if they weren't going to last more than 16k as the F-1's did..) Now, after about 3k on the new tread, it seems to do fine while going from 1st to 2nd, but it won't spin them in third, instead, you can hear the rev's go up a slight amount and it doesn't feel very firm, and then feel it engage and go on.. No smell's coming out, it's just feels like its slipping.
Is this just an early indication of clutch the going out, or is there a remedy for this? I've never had a clutch act like this one, of course they never had the power in front of them like this one has either..
