Another...Camshaft question
I just bought a camshaft for my car. Its a Lift: .595/.595 Dur@.050: 242/242 LSA: 112. My car is an auto. I have full bolt ons mods already, full exhts.full intake.(ported heads on the way) I was wondering if this is going to be pain in the *** to drive on the street ..every day with that cam.. Or should I take this one back and get something else.
Here are some options.
#1 Lift: .595/.595 Dur@.050: 242/242 LSA: 112
#2 Lift: .595/.595 Dur@.050: 231/231 LSA: 112
#3 Lift: .581/.581 Dur@.050: 224/224 :SA: 112 or 114
Any sugestions ?
Thank You

Re: Another...Camshaft question
Yeah, although that cam isn't too terrible on lift. The duration is really pushing it and is much more than what most people drive with on the street, especially with an auto. You'll also probably need heads to take advantage of what that cam has to offer. I'd get the 224/224 or consider another brand of camshaft before putting that big **** in.
Re: Another...Camshaft question
I have ported heads on the way...3800 stall... 4.10 gears, push rods and dual springs installed already. Tunning I have to pay $350 for that. So maybe that #2 would be not that bad than.. 595 lift with 231 duration.
Hey LSUx I see that Your camshaft has pretty close specs.. Do You drive it on the street often ? How is that going ?
Thanks a lot guys

Re: Another...Camshaft question
It will take a lot of work to have good driveability in an auto. You will have to change valvesprings often with that set up. I would say every 15k maybe 20k if you are lucky. I have heard of a Manley spring breaking at 19k on a .575 lift cam, and a Crane dual (I can't remeber mileage and lift) breaking in the last week.
Re: Another...Camshaft question
I think you're going to run into piston to valve clearance problems running that cam on some milled heads. Possibly even stock heads, but unlikely.. won't know til you test it tho

Josh
