about that pcv mod on install university...

I found this article at www.installuniversity.com ( PCV Modification Installation) and it basically covers how to convert over to a 90 degree pcv valve from the factory unit which is straight through. This article says this mod will eliminate the oil consumption through the crankcase that LS1's have had some issues with (in addition to oil getting past the rings). My question is what supposedly makes a 90 degree pcv valve perform better than the straight through stock unit? I just replaced my pcv today with the straight through and noticed the old one was pretty dark from oil getting burned. Should I even bother with this "mod" or will just replacing the pcv valve like I did today fix any oil burning from a bad pcv valve?

New PCV valve is a good temporary fix. Worked for me to get me to where I put the LS6 valley cover/PCV system on and I just bought a catch can for extra peace of mind.
Vertical PCV valves work consistantly better than horizontal ones. The mod can help.

There is also a new PCV valve that the dealers are using for high consumption. It is basicaly the same valve with no internals and a pinhole on the entering side.

Yeah that's the one I got. I guess I'll see how it works out and might do this mod later. I just don't want to be burning 2 quarts every 3k miles. That would have to take it's toll on the plugs in a short time. I really don't know just how much my car burns yet, but if it can stay at a quart and under, that's perfectly fine with me.
