A4 guys....Idle question?

Well, I got an ses light last week and it turns out it was codes for the cats. Before this my idle was around 800rpm(A4). Since then my idle has fallen to around 500rpm when in drive sitting at a red light or just in park at idle. The car seems to run fine no noticeable power loss. I plan on going with some LT'S and off road pipes and custom y-pipe and some 02 simms and I am thinking this will fix my problem. Anybody ever have a low idle problem when there cats went bad?

thanks,
mike

Lightbulb

Actually I'm pretty sure that a 500rpm idle is normal for A4 cars in when in gear.
Before I bought my 2000Z28 I too was concerned about the low idle but pretty much everyone told me it was normal. Haven't had any problems/SES lights yet.

Thats kind of what I figured but it did idle a little higher before the cats went bad. Or atleast before the ses light came on. I just got the car less than a month ago so I havent got to know the car that well YET! Thanks for telling me that though. you have eased my mind a great deal cos I was kinda getting worried.

thanks,
mike

Thumbs up

My 2001 A4 Z28 idles at 500 RPM when in gear, and I have no SES lights or anything.

450-500 when in gear and 600-650 when in Neutral or Park.
