98 LS1 lifespan?

After reading some about the 98 LS1's having a "weaker" oil pump than the later models, I was just wondering. How many of you out there have actually had one fail in your 98? Anyone have a 98 that is holding up well over 100K? I know the motor is up to it, I am just basically addressing the oil pump issue.

Replace the oil pump if it worries you. It doesn't me, but if I ever do a cam swap, I will replace it....

Re: 98 LS1 lifespan?

I replaced my '98 LS1 after 73K miles with an LS6 longblock. It started knocking...I have no idea why and it's still sitting on a stand in my garage and I never opened it up to check. I did the swap in July of '04.

Re: 98 LS1 lifespan?

The only thing I had to replace was my water pump on my '98Z. Other than that, I haven't any other problems.

My 98 has 74k with over 100 passes with the stock oil pump & I shift it at 6800.

Re: 98 LS1 lifespan?

Just passed 120k on my 98 LS1 in the AZ summer heat. Only thing changed was water pump at 80k. Still have good oil pressure.
