Got a 98Z. Bought it used with 70000mi. Had no problems when I got it and havn't had any since. Love the car. Wish I'd have bought one sooner.

My 98 SS runs fine--very reliable. I am not a drag guy, so I have no track times for you, but I did run a Tazzo and pulled just under 104 mph in the 1/4 on a regular country road that is not really level on stock Eagle F1s, so the power is there. I do think the LS6 manifold should make you the match of a typical 2000-02.

Do be wary of 2001s--this is the run of engines that can use oil and need a ring job to correct it.

what ever year LS1 you go with you will be very happy. I would buy a lower priced F-body and then you have extra money for mods

Hey bone Marrow, those are incredible times with an A4 w/2.73s. Are you sure you didn't have 3.23s to start with, cuz those times are amazing. Sounds like you got a factory freak. Really nice dyno numbers too. I wish mine was that much of a freak.

One of the advantages to the 98 specifically, it is the only LS1 with an accurate temp gauge. In the latter part of 98, GM receive many letters from people complaining that the needle on the temp gauge moved way too much. (Basically, they know nothing about cars and got scared by a normal thing) So GM changed the temp gauge for 99-02. Now, when the car is warmed up, the temp will always read 210. (unless of course the temp actually goes higher) Pretty stupid i think, if your temp suddendly starts to rise (indicating an overheating) you would have less of a warning with the newer temp gauges. Very stupid indeed.
