98-02 K&N FIPK

I'm thinking this post will probably get moved or deleted or something since this isn't a sponsor but I figured I'd be doing a injustice to other ls1 f-body owners if I didn't just post it.

I was browsing around ebay about 2-2½ weeks ago and stumbled accross what I thought was an outstanding deal. I found the K&N FIPK system at the buy it now price of only $221 plus $15 shipping. I figured I'd wait until I received it to post in case the seller was difficult to deal with. Shipping did take a little while but it was worth it. The auction is over but I would imagine they will sell more. Ebay Auction

FIPK is a waste of $$ for LS1 owners when they can get the same power gains from a 100.00 dollar lid

You may be able to get the same gains, but IMO, the FIPK looks a lot better, sounds better and cleans up the engine bay a lot. I love the sucking sound it makes when you rev it up. The other nice thing about it is that you don't have to worry as much about getting water up in there with the FIPK, whereas if you have most of the cold air stuff, it becomes an issue.

I also have one for sale if anybody cares.

"whereas if you have most of the cold air stuff, it becomes an issue"

in years of reading about LS1 cars, i have only heard of ONE person with actual "i saw it happen" experience with hydrolocking with a cai or SSRA.
and that was an idiot racing through 6" puddles to see how much water he could throw up!

beyond that it is all urban myth about it being a problem.

i've been driving in south florida, including through several hurricane seasons without any problem with water in the intake. i've even pulled the lid after a particularly bad day (HEAVY rain and 2" of water on most roads) and there wasn't even any water in the air box.

"Lid ... 8 to 12 rwhp ... FIPK 15 to 22 rwhp"

ya got proof of that? or are ya listening to the manufacturer? cause we all know they never exagerate.

and even if someone DID get 20hp on a dyno, i've seen a dozen people dyno 8-10hp gains from the LS6 intake....and one guy post a 20hp gain...does that mean everyone will gain 20....NOPE.

my thoughts:

the K&N is a good intake for the WS6 hood since the ram air scoop is better lined up for the filter to get cold air.
for the standard camaro, ta, or SS where the scoop is not idealy located...the Lid and SSRA is the best combination of parts for the most hp.

figure a lid alone is worth 10hp, and once you get up speed, say 75+mph, the ram air affect of the SSRA really shines and yields a farther 10hp.

but if you like the K&N...by all means...enjoy it...as with everything around here...gains are not set in stone...and are open for debate

This is getting a little OT, I didn't mean for this to become a debate over which induction is better. I had a lid and cai and they did great I just liked the look of the FIPK better and am planning on getting an ultra z hood. I found a good deal on one and thought I should share.

I am not sure how this guy had the k&n 's for the price you listed (are you sure that it was brand new?)

Anyway we are having a sale on the FIP kits... check out the link below for prices
http://www.elitesparkplugs.com/KN.html

I have one of the lowest prices out there for this system.

Thx Jim

Re: 98-02 K&N FIPK

When FIPKs were new numerous people saw gains of approximately 20 rwhp. I saw a 26 rwhp gain. It's one of the best mods I have done to my car. The price mentioned at the top of the thread is pretty good, but I would be suspect.

Don't be suspect. It came in the mail when he said it would, it was factory sealed in a factory box. Everything was brand new and in perfect working and perfect looking condition. I don't know how he sold them for that cheap but he did and I am one happy customer.

I just checked out his listings again and it appears he can no longer offer them for $221.95, he had to raise his prices 8 whole dollars.

These kits must have fallen off a truck. There is no other way ...
