6 speed transmission clanking

whenever im driving around and i switch gears and push the clutch in, there is a slight "chhhh ch ch" clanking sound, and when i let the clutch spring back out (even slowly) there is a more prominent "chh ch ch ch ch" i get this same sound as i'm driving along on any road that isn't perfectly smooth. It almost sounds as if the tranny is rocking on it's mounts and clanking against something.... ideas???

would bad U joints on the driveshaft explain why the car starts vibrating slightly whenever i get above 80 mph? (especially noticable when cruising on the turnpike...

would this also cause a slight decrease in performance?

Sounds familiar. I get high-speed vibration over 80 also (no, not tires). It was real bad when I first bought my car. I had the shaft replaced Before 1K miles. New shaft still vibrates a little bitand I think that the shaft was out of balance, and may be still that way to a small degree. Could also be U-joints.
Does the vibration get better & worse when you "play" with part-throttle and no-throttle loads?

it might be the Trans Mount... Start With that and if Trans mount is fine, then check Ujoints and see if there is any play in them..
